Just curious to see how many people donated. I live in a small town in the Philippines and I got a bunch of people to donate through my PSN account since this is the only way we can donate to Japan. It's great that Sony allows us gamers to actually make a difference and help out those in Japan. (^_^)

I haven't. Their GDP is pretty good, so I don't think they'd need a precious fiver of mine.

$10 I donate to a lot of Charities. Breast Cancer (since my mom lost both of hers from Cancers), Organ Donation (We donated my dad's organs when he passed away), Diabetes (Fiance is Type1),Red Cross, Relay for Life, and anything that comes to my door. Almost every Charity is important and does a lot of good to those in need. You never now when you are going to need something someday, and a lot of these charities work behind the scenes so it is your responsibility, and it does effect you rather you realize it or not. It doesn't have to be a lot, anything is better than nothing...

Unfortunately, this seems to be the attitude for more people than it really needs to be. The whole mentality of "If I'm not getting anything out of this it isn't worth my money".

Over 18,000 people lost their lives. 250+ Billion dollars in damage was done. If even justhalf the PS3 owners donated $10, that would be 250 million dollars going towards relief efforts. A little money goes a long way as long as every is willing to give up a little.

Plus if you keep some record of it you can get tax reductions.

It's nice to see there are ACTUALLY people that are kind enough to give a few extra cash for those in need. It makes me smile seeing people actually donate. :)

You actually have a bit of a point. I imagine that more people are making donations for Japanese victims of natural disaster becausethere are a lot of gamers and anime fans. I didn't hear much -- if anything at all -- about donations to help the people in Christchurch, New Zealand when they suffered devastating earthquake losses. It's a good thing to donate to Japan, of course, but the before mentioned observation popped into my head.

I just wish Sony would offer people a better image than they one they're offering now. A single static image - not even a dynamic theme? Come on Sony, you can do better.

I haven't tried the PSN version only because my work is offering a donation program through the American Red Cross & it seems to be the best so far. Simply because they will match dollar for dollar to whomever makes a donation. For example, if I donate $100, they will also match & donate $100 to the American Red Cross to assist Japan.

I think if you have a better option available, like directly to the red cross, go for that. It looks like Sony is treating this like a regular sale, hence the charging tax on a donation. So that means whatever profit they get will go to the red cross, but you're really just paying 10, 20, or 50 bucks for the theme. I kind of doubt it's a malicious publicity stunt, especially since Sony is a Japanese company, but there are better options.

The tax was a mistake, Sony said so themselves, everyone will be credited the tax.

I know since you posted this someone has answered your post by saying it was a mistake on the behalf of Sony by adding tax, but what i would suggest to anyone still unsure about donating on the PSN Storn would be to do it as you said through the Red Cross appeal via the banner at the top of the site. Or if there is one near by a local Red-Cross shop.

Actually, I was in a far worse situation than the one Japan is currently in, that ended up with a death toll over 100,000. Gosh, everyone sure is so judgmental. You think you're better than everyone else. You're not.

I don't take kindly to people who call me "selfish as hell". One, you don't know who I am. Second, Japan is more than capable of taking care of its own people. Furthermore, I have people that I care about and would give my life for . I can't be bothered to help out people who mean nothing to me.

As for the second question, that would be the Bosnian War.
