So I've had my PS3 for just over a month. Everything is going fine, it sits on top of a desk, plenty of air, the house is cool. So today, while I go out for a quick run, I boot up the Folding@Home app and leave for 40 minutes. When I get back, I notice my TV is black, and I go to the PS3 and it's off. Except everything else (TV, reciever, etc) is on. And no matter what I try to do, I cannot get the PS3 on again. Further, I've been gone for the past week, so the PS3 has seen almost no action.

I see dead 360 threads here all the time...has anyone seen (or had) a dead PS3 like this?

That's weird. I've never heard of any PS3s crapping out yet. Have you made sure your power cord is plugged in? Have you tried plugging it into another outlet?

That's weird because the PS3 is actually a very reliable console. Just for kicks maybe the main power switch got bumped maybe if you flip the main power switch off for a few seconds and then flip it back on it might work then.

If you want us to help fix your ps3, you would need a screwdriver to open it up and void the warranty.Or to make it easy, you better call sony asap cause it is under warranty.

i am not sure what you use but i have a certain type of surge protector its like a super duper one, anyways i have my ps3 plugged in the port that has a timed delay on it and when my power goes out and the protector cuts off. when its kind of what i call standby where its on everything will turn on tv, surround sound etc. but if i dont turn the power button on to my protector to bring it out of standby my ps3 will not turn on becuase its plugged into that delayed port. just a thought if you have the kind of surge protector i have

This is the first time I've heard anything like this,I've had mine since 11/17 and have 0 problems with my console. I hate to say it dude, but you are one of the few people who got a bad ps3. Just send it back and get another one.

ok try this. it hapened to me. let your ps3 turn on for a bout 30 seconds or so to let it boot up. if you can't see the screen turn off teh power from the back of the ps3

wait 3 seconds then turn it back on, the settings should reset and you can see it again. if it doesnt work then you should contact sony.

The same thing happened to me. Bought my 60GB PS3 1 week after launch. I played Fight Night Round 3 on it for an hour (PS3 is in a very well ventilated area) and it just froze and the PS3 did 2 beeps and shut down on me. I tried to boot the PS3 up but it won't boot. The game is now stuck in the blu-ray drive. I called Sony the next day and they told me to send it back (Great customer service along with free shipping, they will send you a box to pack your PS3 in it via UPS). They sent me a new PS3 which arrived 1 week after they got it. I can tell it is a brand new PS3 because the back of the serial # is different from my first one and if you look carefully, you can see an engraved month at the back. My first PS3 that I sent back was manufactured in November, the one they sent me is December. Good Luck ;)

listen to my story, i got my ps3 may 12 and 10 days later, it went off and i had to turn it on, well it went off again like 3 timeswithin a few days, not hot or anything. so then it went dead, i had to go to the store to get another one ( 15 day warranty) and guess what, this one did the same thing. after a few good days, it would go off for no reason, no red lights or nothing, im 26 yrs old, i had almost all the systems and never a problem. my buddy brings 360 over, never nothing like this. yea, the 2nd one went dead too, nothing. so today i sent it back to sony ( the box came in to send it out) i hope i get my new one this weekend, what do you think? and also, what do you think my problem is? i have no idea. my house never had any power problems. any one? thanks
