See I got a ps2 about 2 years ago. The cashier at BestBuy said if I get a warrenty I could get $150 off the PS3 if I just return the ps2. I also have about a $100 in BestBuy gift cards. I needed to know if I should worry or not about getting a warrent for the PS3, cosidering it is $100. $742 is just too much money for a kid that doesn't have a job to spend. So do you guys think I'll have to worry at all about my PS3 if I don't get a warrenty?

Well there is the manufacturer warranty. I got a gamestop warranty. I'm sure if something happens and you go the man. way they treat you decently. Despite what many fanboys say PS3 is a well made console and has very little breakdowns. I haven't heard anyone yet complain about their's breaking down.

The PS3 is a very well built console. Have you seen pictures of the inside? Everything is packed in very nicely. Sony is an electronics expert, and they went the extra mile to get quality parts in the PS3 (high-quality fan, Seagate HDD, slot loading BD, etc.). Of course, you'll have to pay a little extra for this, but it's well worth it. I don't think you need to buy the Best Buy warranty since Sony already gives you one.
Nope...and I make it a point to use it for something everyday. The ps3 is a gamemachine, but I have very little time for gaming during the week, so it is cool that I can watch my programs recorded on dvd, listen to music while I surf the web, and check-out my pics all on my hdtv. Once I get the time, and nerve, I'm going to install linux(yes I know it's a pain). I already have a decent pc, but the ps3 just makes somethings more convenient for me. So with all that I'm using it for, it's been holding up good!!!!
Chalk up another vote here for "No" The reliability of the PS3 was a big factor why I chose this system over...well...a competitor's system that also is trying to compete in the high definition graphics arena hint hint :)
so far so good on my end. i was a bit concerned when I got the ps3 since i had a terrible time witht he ps2 breaking down(i got it at launch and was bombarded with "Disc Read Error" but all of my fears are gone since the ps3 has performed well above my expectations. i say shame on me for expecting any less, but no one is perfect;)
Nope, works like a charm. I hope it keeps up. Also I am glad to see that no one is having any problems. It's only so long before a fanboy comes in and messes it up though.
Nope, not me. And note that I have a ps3 in a boxed space where when you put your hand in the area and you can feel the heat. I've even used it for a month in there. Then again, it could be i play only on the weekends...

Same, Sony built a great system, it's quiet, doesn't get too hot, and has a low breakdown percentage.

Consider the PS3 like a PC, they get hot but run like butter on hot metal in Wyoming. Hmm...I don't have that experience. I was downloading demos yesterday for about 4-5 hours. No significant heat that I could notice.
