First of all, who is telling you these horrible things?

This may have happened to 1 person, but to say that after a defined period of time, a console will fail is ridiculous. Whoever told you these things, never believe them again for anything. Even the Xbox 360, which has (had) a poor failiure rate, cannot be predicted on a time scale of X amount of days or months til they regularly break. It's random.

I've heard here and there about people having issues with PS3, but I think the overall fail rate is around 3%. I have a 60GB from DAY 1 launch, and I have had 0 issues with it, and even upgraded the HDD to 160GB and still have flawless performance.

ANY electronic device has a chance of failing, but the PS3 is built well, and reliability should not be a concern when you buy one.
