My PS3 keeps dropping my internet connection. It keeps happening when im playing COD kicking me out of most matches im in. It's also happening when i try to use netflix on it. It usually reestablishes a connection after about 30 secs without me doing anything. Sometime I have to reset my modem though. I am wired staright from the modem. No router, no wireless. what is this and how do i fix it

Sounds like a port problem. If you are wired to the router, you should ALWAYS have a type 2 NAT under Internet connection settings>test. Type 1 is directly to the modem, and Type 3 is a problem child, as it can kick you from the network, disable or squash voice chat, and slow your connection to a crawl. If you have a type 3 NAT, you most likely have a faulty router or modem, or ports aren't being forwarded correctly on your router. If you can, try to log into your router's web based GUI and setting the PS3's Ip address into DMZ. This tells the router to open all ports that are requested by the PS3, without having to manually forward them on your own. Another thing to look into is your actual modem. Sometimes your ISP gives you a modem that has two types of modes; bridge and router. If you are using your own router, and the modem's firmware is set to run at router, it can cause interferance. If all this fails, contact your ISP and ask them to walk you through changing your modem into bridge mode if it indeed has been set to router. I could tell you the difference between the two, but it prove non-beneficial.

Try disabling your media server connection in your PS3 settings. It does eat up a bit of your bandwidth and might help out. It's also one of the quickest things you can do to see if it helps you out.

Its not a port problem, if your only using a Modem and have broadband then you probably need a router. Router is used to "Route" connections to the correct device which is using the connection so maybe your PS3 just aint getting a strong enough signal or the connection gets dropped due to having no router. Router also boosts signal from the phone line so could be a signal strength issue.

Low signal strength? He needs a router? What are you on about, man? Everything I said is spot on, and I have years of experience to back it up. Being wired directly to the modem is the best thing you can do to keep a connection as strong as possible. Routers do not make the "signal" stronger...
