As previous games have done before on the PS3, Haze will require a mandatory install of 4GB. In my opinion, I really don't matter about the installs games have as long as the game plays well, but for some PS3 owners who may not have a lot of HDD space left seem to care unless they upgrade. Of course the game will look fantastic and will have improved detail graphically than the demo and faster network connectivity for online play. As a hardcore gamer, I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

Just delete the game utility from games you don't play anymore. I deleted my Oblivion game utility which was 4GB, and just left the game saves for later. It frees up a lot of space to do this kind of thing.

You mean that if I delete the saved utility data, then I can keep the saves so that I can re-install it later and pick up from where I was before!?

Yessir.

My oblivion saves are still there, but I deleted the 4GB game data utility for it. The saves still have the pictures too - they work if I install the utility again.

Holy crap, THANKS! I've always wondered about this, but kept my game utility stuff just in case.

No problem. I have 38GB left on my 60GB. That's pretty good since I got a few demos, videos, and a few CD's - and all the gamesaves/a few game utilities (GTA4).

I only delete the game utilities that are over 1GB - for the ones I don't play. I delete all the demoes since I only play them once - and I can just get them off the store again.

At least I upgraded to 120GB so these installs don't matter to me. As long as it improves the load times I'm all for them.

The bigger the install the better. TBH I'd like to see 10gb installs. That said I'm passing on Haze.

Cool deal. I was woundering how they were going to do the "no loads at all" threw a whole game thing. Same reason IGN likes GTA on PS3.

these install sizes are getting to be quit ridiculous and i think it has something to do with the blu ray drive speed being a bit low. install sizes and having them be forced is a bit to much like pc gaming, its one of the reasons i prefer consoles and now these installs are really starting to annoy me.

it should be optional (unless of course, which is what im beginning to suspect more and more that its required to play the game i.e. the blu ray drive speeds to slow for certain games)

And how ironic is it that the other company says that downloads are the future over blu ray. That discs are not needed. I say if it makes the game run better. Fine. And if Micro says it the future also, than fine.

Agreed, Installing a game on the harddrive should be optional.I wouldn't mind this if it was on some of the major Ps3 tittles but now it seems as if this is going to be a trend with all the major releases.

With more downloadable content coming to the PSN(T.V shows, movies, music) I'm definitely going to upgrade my harddrive. But for people who can't afford to upgrade, this will be a problem.A problem that Sony and the developers really need to look into.

It is the future when we have like 5 million gigs on our HD's. Consider that MGS4 uses up the full 50gb on the disc then think about how large your hard-drive would need to be to facilitate only hdd gaming...

That ticks me off. What happened to the good ole days of just pop in the disc and play? Consoles now have all the headaches of PC gaming.

I have less than 10 gigs on mine. Guess I'll have to start deleting my demos. lol

Haze has an install and Elvis is dead. For other late breaking news.....WHO CARES???? For chrissakes people, you want next gen gaming, quick load times, better textures, etc, that's what the damn thing was for! Now you're complaining when your GAME MACHINE is using the HDD for, dare I say, GAMES?

Threads like this are so ill conceived and ugly they give me eye cancer.

in all honesty at this point who cares really? People know that all the more prominent titles on ps3 will have an install. They have already said why this is. I don't mean free radical, I mean for the ps3 in general. They said that blu ray reads everything at one speed so they have installs to make everything faster, otherwise the loading times would be horrible and that game is suppoed to run without any loading times like uncharted, so get prepared. I can see that every game that has a required install is going to have a thread.

The installs only take abou 15 minutes at the most for a whole month or of play. I am talking in general and are not refering to the people who play 12 hours every day and can beat 50 hour games in less than I week. Most people that want X game will probably keep it around at least a month before selling it or whatever, so what is 15 minutes to a month of play time. You have already waited X amount of time for X game to come out, a few minutes more can't hurt.

The File size to download the full game of Oblivion to your PC is 4.5gb

On the PS3 you have to install 4.6gbs, before play. If you ask me there just releasing the games for download on blu ray.

I want to see games that utilize all 50GB on the blu ray disc and cache the hell out of the HDD. Games shouldn't have loading times, texture pop, etc, anymore and they should all take place in worlds larger than Oblivion rendered as beautifully as Uncharted, Lost Planet, etc. This whole mindset that multiplat games need to be the same or that it isn't worth the effort to develop a functional game specifically for each console also needs to change. They are different, the PS3 has more to offer. Put some more time into the technology so the PS3 versions aren't inferior. I'm looking at you, Skate (Love you btw EA/Skate :))

Again, for those of you who constantly complain and can't seem to read, you can keep all of your save info and just delete the game download file in and of itself on things like Oblivion or Devil May Cry. This frees up your precious HDD space and keeps all your save info to boot. No one loses.

But, in the end, the HDD was for GAMING first and foremost, folks. Not downloaded movie trailers and music. If you truly want to use the PS3 as a multimedia hub, you have to get a different HDD from Newegg. (Which you can do easily - 160 gig 2.5" SATA can be found for under 80 bucks now.)

The HDD is for gaming. The cake is a lie.

Two things most people on this board seem to forget on a regular basis.

I have about 80 360 games, with downloaded map packs and added content, it took up 3.5 gigs on my 20gig hd. I don't have to delete anything and have plenty of room for more.

How do you see how much space is left on your hard drive?

Also how do you make a back up of the operating system, saves, downloaded games, etc. if you get a bigger hard drive? Can you back everything up to your computer, or do you have to use a external hard drive? Do you need to create any special folders on the external drive?

To see how much space you have left on your hard drive, go to settings on the XMB (main menu) and scroll down until you see "System Settings" and scroll down to "System Information" and you'll see how much space is left on your HDD along with your MAC address and I.P. address. For backing up all your game saves, go to settings, "System Settings", scroll up till you see "Backup Utility" and select "Backup", then select the "yes" option. Make sure you have a USB device to backup your files and game saves, then select the "USB DEVICE" icon and wait till your PS3 is done backing up all your saves. As for the external hard drive, it's up to you if you want to create special folders, but it's not needed. Hope this helps.:)

That's because the 360 doesn't have installs on games.

If I delete all the installs, and leave my extra content I would have a lot more space. But I like my faster loading times.

just wait 3 mroe weeks for mgs4 then...

my theory is the main reason that haze isnt up to par/as good as it "should be" is because they origianally were making it for 360 and ps3, and multiplatform games really aren't ever as good as if they were built all for one console. basically were getting a multiplatform game on one platform, NO exclusive ps3 game should ever need an install because of the space on the disc.

my theory is the main reason that haze isnt up to par/as good as it "should be" is because they origianally were making it for 360 and ps3, and multiplatform games really aren't ever as good as if they were built all for one console. basically were getting a multiplatform game on one platform, NO exclusive ps3 game should ever need an install because of the space on the disc.

The install helps with loading times.

Ugh. Spoken by someone who has no idea how computers work.

The mandatory HDD installs that CAN'T be done on the 360 (since it doesn't have a HDD as part of its base package for programmers to base their development on) allow the games to run much more effieciently and to better effect. This allows textures, background specs, etc. to be maintained in the HDD/cache and therefore means less has to be retrieved from the slower Blu-Ray disc. The HDD mandatory install allows quicker / absent load times between levels, smoother framerate, less "pop up" on the horizon / background, etc.

End result is that, once maxed out, the more on HDD stored info the smoother and better game you should have in the end.

Feel free to make up wild suppositions though. Its suits you well.
