looks good on sd but the graphics arent mind blowing unless its hd.

id get the tv first, the ps3 after killzone 2 comes out. just bide your time and then all teh good games will be out when you buy it.

No you need to find a 1080p HDTV for $600. Tough luck finding one of those... You're in the same dilemma I'm in right now. The only decent 1080p HDTV's seem to be high up in the 1300 or 1500 dollar range (Canadian $).

I would get the ps3 first, since the games still look great in sd, and there are plenty of great games out to enjoy. Then, save up and get a decent HD set and be amazed by the difference. If you are willing to settle for 720p/1080i, you can get a hd set easily for under 600. My 30" HD CRT cost me about $400 something like 6 months ago. My way of thinking is that and HD tv isn't really worth having until you get an HD console/movie player, so buying the tv first, you won't get a lot out of it. But the ps3 works great even with an sd set, so you will start enjoying that (although not to its FULL potential) right away.

Ugh... and people tell my my high end PC gaming is expensive. I'm going to have to dish out somewhere around $2500 dollars for an HDTV that can play PS3 games at their finest, as well as a PS3, all its required equipment to hook it up to the internet, a few controllers, and a boatload of games... jesus christ, I wouldn't be surprised if it added up to higher than $2500... compared to a $1200 PC.. :,(. And I still want to upgrade my PC once Nvidia releases information for it's new line of DX10 cards... and get a 24" LCD for it... AGHHHHH SO MUCH BLOODY MONEY!!!

HD does make a difference, besides if your in the US next Feburary the government is making all TV broadcast go digital. Also the PS3 is now one of the best Blu-Ray players on the market after the latest firmware update.

I had a 34 inch Sony XBR tube HDTV that was 1080i native, i recently moved so I sold that on craigslist (its almost 200lbs!) and bought a new Samsung 32 inch LCD HDTV for $800. Now, the new samsung is only 720p but for some reason has a better and more crisp picture than the 1080 set I used to own. I did some research and the only way your gonna notice the difference between 720p and 1080 is if the TV is 40 inches or bigger OR if you play games and watch TV 3 feet from your screen. I would highly recommend the Samsung 32 inch, great picture and great price.

i would recommend getting the HDTV, as well. and for a bit more you can get a great set.

i got my 1080p 32" sharp aquos for $950.. it's not much more than what you're willing to spend.. but trust me, it's worth it.

Does the Sharp Aquos still have banding issues? I heard they were heavily discounting their sets because of issues with banding.

First off for 600 bucks your not going to be able to afford anything larger than say a 37" if that. So why would you even want 1080p... to see a real difference with 720p/1080i vs 1080p you need at least 55" or larger. So go to your local wal-mart and buy you a Sanyo or Emerson 32-37" LCD TV.

Sanyo does still exist and has some Walmart presence. Vizio is it's own company.

From what I have seen the LCD HDTV's are better for all around viewing because any abient light doesn't effect it that much. Where the other types of HDTV's are harder to view unless the light is low in the room.

Misinformation and little to no knowledge is a terrible thing my friend. My 32" 1080p Toshiba costed me 1299$ for Christmas sale.

It's a 10-15 years investment and it's worth very much. You don't buy TV every year.

Get a good TV first then PS3. You will enjoy it a lot.

Consoles DO end up costly about as much asa PC nowadays. It's a misnomer that the reverse is true.

I would say go with the 720p for now, 1080p is just too expensive at the moment. SDTV is not bad tho me and my roommate both have ps3s on sdtvs and although its not as sweet as playing on my bros hdtv its still pretty amazing.

Put it this way. In less than 3 years it went from rarely seeing a HD. To now rarely seeing a SD TV. I rarely see a SD TV anywhere now. Unless its in the back of someones garage or whatever. Heck my brother just got a HD for his garage, a small one granted. When I wnet out to a party for New Years I saw a small HD in a kitchen. 2 more years and its full HD everywhere.

It's better to save up for 1080p rather than buy 720p which will be outdated sooner or later.

Oh if thats the question. Yea it will kinda hold at 1080p eventually. 720 would be a waste of money if your looking for the next 6 years. But theirs also more to it than just 1080p. If you want a great TV. You have to look at Image Contrast Ratio, and dynamic ratio and stuff.

Crap man where do you live Orange County ? lol. I only know ONE person that has a HDTV.

I would get the PS3 first. You can enjoy all the games on it in SD. Sure it doesn't look spectacular but you still feel like your playing a next gen console. The problems I have had with my SD is that alot of text is so hard to read it becomes a problem. Like in Assasin's Creed I can't read anything that is on the little map lol.

I have played xbox360 on a HDTV and yes yes it truly is a whole diff experience than on SD. But wtf is the point of having the HDTV besides gaming really ? Personally I could really care less about watching some blue-ray movie about lame @ss spider man or watching a baby seal get born on Planet Earth and have it feel so real I could smell the placenta. But that's just my opinion.

I am going to be upgrading to HD just for my PS3. I too have a teeny budget. I only want something 27-32 inches or so. I was pricing some at Wal-Mart the other day, In that size... Does it really have to be 1080 ? or can I get away with a 720 ? I sit about 5 feet from my TV btw.

720 is perfect for a 32".
