Well of course there is a difference, but if he wants a ps3 he should get one. Hopefully his sdtv is fairly large, or else he won't be able to read any of the text!

How can he say that if he doesn't have an HDTV?

Everyone should know this by now: PS3 + SDTV + RCA doesn't even come close to the quality of a PS3 + HDTV + HDMI.

Those people had to be using composite cables on the SD set. I have both SD and HD tvs and the SD looks much better than that over component.

Your both wrong. He's wrong about saying there is no difference, as there is BUT your also wrong when you say there is a lot of difference, as it all depends on various things. It all depends on the TV, it's size and how far you sit, me, i now have a 1080p setup BUT i also have a 26" SD TV in my bedroom and i can tell you i'd be hard pushed to spot the difference in most games (as i have both tvs setup at there optimal distances for there size), infact one of my games actully looks better on the SD tv (R&C TOD) BUT that's because of the upscaling of the game on the 1080p makes it worse (R&C TOD is probably the worst upscaling game i've seen). Compairing pictures means jack, it's won't really show anything, the only way to compair them is to see them side by side in real life at there optimal distances in relation to there size (i have), you telling your friend not to buy a PS3 as he has no HD tv is actully pretty stupid mate, games look far better than people like you think.

Stoner is of course correct. I upgraded from a 32" CRT which I had when I initially bough my PS3 in 2006 to a 61" projection screen. There was a world of difference between size and quality. I had a difficult time reading text on the 32" when sitting 7-10' from the screen, especially in RPGs. This is no longer the case. You will see more pixellation as you stretch a 480 signal to fill a 1080 screen (if you play PS1 or have a backwards compatible PS3 playing PS2).

Seriously, everyone who says there's no difference between SD and HD is just a fool, I personally own a full HD Tv since I have my PS3 and two of my friends who played on SD bought a HD once they saw the big difference from their crappy SD to my HD

Who in the thread said there is no difference?, the most that was said was by me and what i said is a fact NOT just an opinion, there is a difference between SD and HD (as there is a pixel amount diffence) however as i said, it depends on the size of the TV, the distance you sit from the TV and how good the TV actully is.

no def between HD and SD? you mean other than like double the res LOL. your friend does not need a HD tv or a ps3. he needs to spend that cash on a set of glass's. but thats not to say the ps3 is not worth it with out a HDtv. The games just will not look as good. And if i were you i would not worry about it. let him play on a SDtv.

true. But even the worst HDtv looks betterthan the best SDtv from what iv seen. and it does not really matter about size as there is still a big def.

Actually I was refering mainly on the friend of the TC, you just a bit as well as the guy on top of page 2. Your comment btw. is kinda strange, because wether the size nor the distance matters alone, but the combination of it. Of corse you have to sit close if it is a small TV, but seriously, if you buy a new TV you think about such things before. Sure the picture on the TV can be worse due to bigger response time or less contrast, but seriously, it's pretty rare to get a worse HD Tv than the (old) SD you already have.

HD looks better, but SD is fine. Some games like GTA4 actually look better in SD as it gets rid of a lot of the graphical issues...

HD cables won't turn as SDTV into an HDTV.

If people dont notice a difference between SD 480i and HD 720p/1080i/p then they need their eyes checked.

The difference to me, is like when you go to the eye doctor and they do the eye test and keep asking you "okay, 1 or 2..., ok 1 or 2, ok 3 or 4"

the difference is HUGE. i have played ps3 in SD for about 1 year, i have completed mgs4 on sd. you have to be very close to the tv because text is tiny (you will curse your tv because of that). recently, i bought a hdtv and i was amazed! the colors are so bright, the image is so sharp everthing is cooler in hdtv 8) but i think it depends on your tv. i used to play in a very old tv without even component cables input...so yeah that can make a difference too:?
