This topic is locked from further discussion.
i turned it on and it said the "hard disk's drive is corrupt it will now be restored" i clicked "X" and it went to 100% percent progess...
after this the same message came up again and again, i found a way to possibly fix it.
but i wanted to know could it possibly happen again or should i just buy another HDD?
I would buy another one, but it seems to be a frequent problem. It happened to my PS3 erasing all my save games and several of my friends have had it happen to them too. I have contacted Sony, but it is always the same **** again and again._Pinbot_It happens on any system that uses a hard drive. PS3, servers, pcs, ipods, X360 doesn't matter if it has a hard drive it has a chance of getting corrupted. Harddrives are still a mechanical device. You just have to live with that fact and the best thing to do is back up frequently. Can't preach that enough. I sell IT for a living so I've seen people lose a lot of things far more important than just game saves because they didn't back up. So please please please back up
edit: if you don't know how... all you need is a $10 USB flash drive. That will be enough for your game saves. If you have family photos, music, etc.. you will need to invest in a USB harddrive.

Weak excuse. My PC doesn't have it happen every few months and it is constantly on. Heck, my iPod Video is still going strong after a few years and trips down the stairs. My PS3 is STATIONARY and gets turned on once a week.i saw a vid on youtube... sorry i cant remeber what one it was
anywayz it said click "X" when it says the HDD will be restored, and as soon as the progess bar comes up take the HDD out quickly while the progess is still on 0%,
then w8 for about a minute and a message will come up saying do u want to format the HDD put the HDD back in a click "X" again
although i havent tried it coz i am currently restoring my HDD and its taking about 3 1/2 hours...
The worst part is that after the process is done, all the files will be gone. Better say good-bye to all your game saves.i saw a vid on youtube... sorry i cant remeber what one it was

@shhbob One more thing it looks like from your post you upgraded your Harddrive. It sounds like you got it fixed, but If it does die you don't need to buy a new one. Most reputable Harddrive manufacturers carry a three or five year warranty and most will do an exchange without any problems.EmperorSupreme

It is the system that the PS3 uses to save games is very archaic and prone to failure. If he used the harddrive in his computer, it would work fine for the next 5 years.

so its the ps3 saving programme not the actual HDD

From my understanding, yes. I actually added my last harddrive to my PC a week ago and it works fine. I have no motivation to play any more knowing that most likely I will lose all my save files... again. Such a great system with a major flaw.[QUOTE="EmperorSupreme"]@shhbob One more thing it looks like from your post you upgraded your Harddrive. Umm no that is 100% not true.... I sell about 5 harddrives everyday to replace dead ones on PCs, Notebooks, and Servers. That's just me alone. Harddrives die all the time because they are incredibly fragile. They are a mechanical device, sorry but mechanical things die. Has nothing to do with the PS3.

I have no motivation to play any more knowing that most likely I will lose all my save files... again. Such a great system with a major flaw. My drive fails to read PS3 games but everything works fine. When i swapped in the 250gb hdd i seen that error once and noticed it would not auto boot games when turned on with a disc in. Sony does not have great CS i offered to buy a new PS3 and send the POP in order to get my 60gb model drive repaired and the guy acted dumb. I opened the convo like"I have an issue, My PS3 will not do what it is specifically made to do", allthough it is made to do various things, what is it's #1 purpose? And he could not get that. In the end nun u can do but either pay to replace the damaged Hardware. It happens on any system that uses a hard drive. you could also get a 32 gig usb flash drive adn avoid an external HDD... but i think they start getting realy expensive after around 8 gigs. i personally have a 4 gig flash drive that doesn't leave my ps3. before i finish playing, i quit the game and backup the save again. 2 or 3 seconds every time i finish over countless hours gone. seems an = trade off to me.

I was referring to Pinbot, the PS3 does not have a "major" flaw. You are not any more likely to lose HDD data on the PS3 than on any other system that is not backed up.[QUOTE="shhbob"][QUOTE="EmperorSupreme"] I know you like to troll around in system wars, but flat out lying in the PS3 forums is getting a little extemeEmperorSupreme

I was referring to Pinbot, the PS3 does not have a "major" flaw. You are not any more likely to lose HDD data on the PS3 than on any other system that is not backed up. Can you give me some proof on this? So far the only system that I have lost my data on (or anyone I know) is my PS3. I own a small computer shop and I have had other people return what they call "faulty harddrives" because they wouldn't work in their PS3 for very long. I pop them into a computer and they work fine. I am not trying to be a troll, but from my studies and experiences in life I feel that the data loss on the PS3 is much higher than any other console and should be considered a flaw. Don't get me wrong, I love my PS3 but what is the point in putting hours of my time into a game for no guarantee that the file will be there next time. I know the importance of backing files up, especially on a PC, but on a gaming system that is turned on and used much less than a PC, I see no point to it since the harddrive should last for many many years without problem.Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I don't think you need to buy a new hard drive.
I've heard of this issue before but it's just your system doing a hard drive 'defragmentation', like computers. It's to sort of clean up your hard drive, organize it.
Amster_G
I don't think that "clean up" is the right term. I don't throw away all the items in my shop when I clean up.

thats true, its happened to my phone and also my 360 account had to pay another full load of money that was going to be used on a game but oh well. i got scared when a message popped up a week ago but it went to 100% and it was fine.[QUOTE="_Pinbot_"][QUOTE="EmperorSupreme"]I was referring to Pinbot, the PS3 does not have a "major" flaw. Well of course it will get corrupt if you turn it off during saves, that is comon knowledge. But that is not the case here. It is happening to people who use it normally and don't shut the system down during writing processes.
