So, does anyone know the best way of hooking up your HDMI connection to both the receiver for your surround sound system and TV? I don't have a surround sound system yet, but right now, I'm guessing I'd have to find one with both HDMI input and output. Or are there splitters? Jeebus, that just sounds really expensive. If anyone has any info or can point me in a certain direction, I'd appreciate it.

You don't have to do it that way. You can have video going throught HDMI and audio through optical or the old school red and white cables if you want.

True, that has to be the most logical and cost effective way to do it.

But I did drop a lot of money on the console, and I'm interested in going over the top with it, so my question still stands.

You hook up the HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver. Then out from your receiver to your tv. Hope that helps

not that expensive, hdmi cables cost like 7 bucks at monoprice, dont get fooled into buying 50 dollar hdmi cables.

anyways the ps3 to reciever, then reciever to tv.
