I'm going to buy a PS3 today and I was wandering if there's a difference between the A/V Cables and the component cables you can buy seperately? Is it worth buying them?

HDMI cables are better than component cables and much much better than A/V cables. You can get them for as low as 5 dollars online at monoprice or you can go crazy and buy the 50+ dollars ones at retail stores.

HMDI with Blu-ray movies; you ain't see nothing like it. Trust me on that. They look incredible. Games seem to look better with HDMI thru my comparison of the two HD connection options.

I've read that there really isn't a difference when it comes to picture quality, but you can get HDMI cables so cheap anyway (cheaper than the compsite a/v cables, because Sony's are special... althought they use the same ones as the PS2 if you already have those) and they are just easier to plug in.  Also, Sound is much, much better through HDMI.

It really depends, if your TV only supports 1080i go with the PS2 (cheaper and the same) hd cables or PS3. If your TV is 1080p go with HDMI, its the only way to support full HD.

I compared both the official component cable from sony (ps2 version) and the HDMI connection, from QED Qunex range.

My tv doesn't support 1080p from component cables, but does with HDMI. On comparing the two, i found a little ghosting with the component cables, whereas the image was crystal clear with HDMI.

My advice is, if you're going to get HDMI cables, get decent ones. I recommend the QED Qunex HDMI-P cable. (even though it is purple:P) as i gives amazing picture quality.

Watching Casino Royale on Blu-ray is a whole other experience, especially the uncompressed sound, that only HDMI can deliver.

HDMI provides zero difference in PQ in any mediocre or better tv. The advantages are that it is only one cable, some quirky sets need hdmi for 1080p, and uncompressed audio if you send it through a receiver. How many times does this need to be said, and why is there such a misconception that HDMI is always better? People must love falling for the "digital is always better" train of thought.

Basically, Component can output HD signal whereas AV couldn't. If your TV has a HDMI port, use it. With HDMI, you will get the best HD signal. :D

That is not true, stop spreading lies.  This forum needs to minimize the number of A/V posts because no one in this forum knows crap about home theater.

Man you got suckered into buying the "better" cables, there is no difference in picture quaility between the $6 HDMI cables at monoprice and the $200 Monster HDMI cables the both output a digital signal and that signal is the same quality in both cables. There is only a difference if you are using alalouge connections like composite with cheap and expensive cables the expensive HDMI cables are only needed if you need to transmit the signal futher than ~25ft for almost all home theatere apllications there is absolutly zero difference, buy a HDMI cable but don't buy an expensive one it's a waste of moey, there are numerous articles on this issue if you need to confirm just search in google
