OK to clear up the big HDMI "Monster cable" etc 100+$ HDMI cable issues.
HDMI is digital, therefore it is transmited in 0s and 1s unlike old coaxial cables. Thus a cheap 20$ HDMI cable is the EXACT same quality as a 120 cable from best buy. Monster and other companies (i have no idea how this isnt a lawsuitable issue due to false advertising) use preconcived notions from older buyers such as adults who are used to the "better coaxial quality will give better picture" arguement which is null and void with HDMI as it is digital. Ones and zeroes will not get corrupted in transmition unlike traditional signaling... it just doesnt happen, thus "extra protection" isnt necessary and yields no benefits.
Do not be scammed by these expensive cables they WILL NOT give any better quality. Don't believe me, just google around. Its straight science, unless the cable is 50+ feet quality will be 100% the same. Neon filling the tubes, gold plating the male female connections, these are all #$@! techniques to squeeze extra money out of the ignorant consumer.
While i wouldnt suggest getting random cabling from ebay or amazon, sides like tiger direct or newegg or directron are all great KNOWN quality distributers and have a ton of generic cabling for drop bottom prices that will perform at the same level of quality as the expensive crap at the stores.
*THIS IS ONLY FOR DIGITAL CABLING, FOR COAXIAL ETC THE BETTER QUALITY RULE STILL APPLIES

In short, HDMI is digital, and a Component is analog.
Just know this:
Digital > Analog.
That's why all TV broadcast stations will be digital on February 9, 2008.
If you can, I'd stay at least $20 or under. Those overpriced cables are just a marketing scam to get people to buy costly things.
Since you considered Ebay, I'll assume you can order them online.
From the past, I have heard people saying that the cheapest cables are on Monoprice.com. Look up HDMI.
I recently watched a show that concluded that there was only a very slight (miniscule) differenece betweeen a cable that costs £5 to one that costs £100 - Your average customer would not know the difference in picture quality - hope this helps
being someone that has purchased both bs hdmi cables and monster hdmi cables, I have seen a major difference. I have a 50" panasonic plasma (only 720p) but the coloring and the sharpness is a lot better. Additionally, the new over-priced hdmi cables use the newer 120hz technology so for people with a newer better LCD tv that uses the 120hz you will get much better frame rate and hardly any lag at all, so YES there is a difference, isn't it worth the money though? probably not. Don't let someone people bull shi* you when they don't really know the facts and haven't actually used good kinds of hdmi cables.stewie628
That's your subconcious trying to justify wasting money.
