I looked through 13 forum pages, and found no answer, forgive the probably repeated question.

Yesterday, I bought an HDMI cable at walmart, but it was too short.

I am going to gamestop to see if I can find a longer cable.

My HDTV has 2 hdmi ports, and 2 Component HD AV cable sets.  My 360 runs at 1080p on one of the components.

Should I buy the HDMI or the Component AV cables?  My Samsung tv runs at 1080p max.

If you have HDMI, why not use it?  You can get cables online for $15.

hdmi cables give you the best signal with the most vibrant colors and greater sound quality it'd be stupid not to get them especially with a 1080p

hdmi gets you little to no improvement in picture quality over component, but its much better for sound because it provides you with uncompressed sound. that and its only 1 cable for both picture and sound.

Ummmm....................... Your dumb. The picture quality WILL be much better, as it is an uncompressed digital signal compared to the picture from componant cables, which would be an anolog signal. Stop telling people the wrong thing.

If you have the ability to use HDMI then do it.  You can get a 6' cable from www.monoprice.com for like $6.

few people will notice the graphical differences between component and HDMI. there are small differences, but not enough to warrant "WILL be much better".

however, sound is where HDMI outshines component

I strongly advise the HDMI cabling.

HDMI is a "kirby" style cabling, meaning all-in-one.  It transfers the uncompressed video and audio.  It is capable of running true 1080p.  If you got any questions, just wiki HDMI.

thankyou, its obvious the person before you has no clue what he is talking about, its almost impossible to tell the difference in hdmi picture quality wise, just trying to get rid of the myths that a digital picture is LIGHT YEARS better than component, when in fact it is not.

I never said Light Years. But.... what TV do you have? I have HD crt plasma lcd and DLP, now the only 1080p is the LCD. Ive played the PS3 on all of them and hooked up component and hdmi to all of them except the crt. There is a noticeable difference on the plasma and dlp and a HUGE difference at 1080p via the LCD. If sound is so great and so much better because it is digital and uncompressed, how can you argue differently for the video portion? Also, I only speak from experience, not from what I hear.

Since cost is not a factor nowadays, I'd say future-proof yourself and go with an HDMI cable. What reason do you have NOT to?

What are you doing for sound right now? Do you anticipate getting an HDMI receiver in the future? That cable will then come in handy for uncompressed sound.

switching TVs is no way of seeing the "differences". You have to switch between the two sources on the SAME TV.  hook up the HDMI cable and the component cable from the PS3 to that TV. get into a game, pause, then switch between the two sources. that's when you will notice a difference.

HDMI is better quality and will eventually be needed to watch Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies.

Can't go wrong with HDMI. And, let me put it this way. You spent $600 on the PS3 and probably lots on your 1080p.. why not spend a few extra bucks on the cable ^^

switching TVs is no way of seeing the "differences". You have to switch between the two sources on the SAME TV. use one of the non-1080p TVs that you have, hook up the HDMI cable and the component cable from the PS3 to that TV. get into a game, pause, then switch between the two sources. that's when you will notice a difference.

and the reason I say to use a non-1080p TV is because, while component can do 1080p, HDMI does it much better. so it's best to show a 1080i/720p picture to show the differences.

Are you mental?

"Ive played the PS3 on all of them and hooked up component and hdmi to all of them except the crt."

I have done that, and if we are arguing picture quality and which one is better, how can you say dont compare on the 1080p tv since thats where it stands out the most, and is diffinetly better than componant, you are correct, it is better and stads out there, thats the point. HDMI is noticably better. and since this guy has a 1080p I would say its most relavent
