This is like the black screen problem others are having, except I'm not even getting any sound.

I'll try to give you a little recap of what happened here, but first my setup: Launch 60GB PS3 connected to 32" Vizio 720p/1080i HDTV via HDMI (everything has been working like this perfectly fine since I bought my PS3 last year).

Now the recap: I just bought the expansion for warhawk, downloaded it (which took a few hours for some reason), installed it, then started the process of updating Warhawk to 1.20. It was taking a long time to download that too, so I changed the channel and watched some TV for a while. I came back to my HDMI channel only to find a black screen (contrary to the solid blue one for when it is recieving no input). I switched the console off and then back on, and the screen turned black again, no picture, no sound, nothing.

I've been trying things for the past hour or two to no avail. However I have figured out (I think) that the PS3 is having trouble running the audio/video through the HDMI cable. I tried a different HDMI cable, but it didn't work. I held the power button for 5 seconds to switch the video back to SD (which it did) but I still didn't get picture or sound. I switched the cord back to a composite AV cord and got picture and sound, but of course, in SD. I tried telling the PS3 to output through HDMI, them switched my cables, still didn't work. I hooked both the cables up and got a message saying that an HDMI device was found and asking if I wanted to output video through it, still didn't work.

So I know its not the TV (my 360 still works fine with HDMI), I know its not the cable (tried a different cable), and I know the PS3 isn't broken (entirely, at least) since it can output fine through AV. That's where I'm at right now. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I reeeeealy want to try out the new Warhawk expansion. Thanks so much :(

Just try switching to a component cable, because you don't have a 1080p TV, so it should be fine and for $15 at GameStop. If you really don't want to give up that cash, then try setting the HDMI to a different channel (if you can)

Hmm, well I don't want to pay $15 for a cable with a lower quality sigmal just because my PS3 is being mean (there are other perks to HDMI than 1080p), and I did try switching the HDMI to a different channel, but it still didn't work...thanks though...

There may have been something in the update. My AV connection stopped working a while back so I just connected the HDMI connection and haven't had a problem (I haven't tried using the AV connection sense then). But from what your saying the HDMI portion of the console may have failed for some strange reason.

:( Well that doesn't sound good. And I reeealy don't want my console replaced. I'm very unhappy with some of the modifications Sony has made to the newer PS3's (no backwards compadability? wtf?)

Try having the console in standby (red light on the front) and hold the power until you hear a second beep.

Yeah, that seems to be the common fix, but as I said in my first post, I tried that and it didn't work.

you probably reset your tv settings by switching power off from the bar ;)

I have had my ps3 for 3 years and it has been fine. Now, because i left the video output at 1080p, i had to hard reset my ps3 to get it working on a 1080i tv. It worked for a while, but then it stopped outputting to hdmi completely. Ive tried turning off all of my tv and that, a different hdmi cable and ive even tried another ps3 on the tv (it worked fine) Can you help me?
