Ok gamers i had checked out the difference in this formats so in my opinion for this day and age and this sky rocket prices just get a HDTV that supports 1080i and 720p because the majority of products are being made to support these. Unlike 1080p were not many games or TV networks are even trying to be made to support it because it takes up allot of time.

But the main reason is that you cant even tell the difference between 1080p and 1080i unless you are trying to view it on a big screen like 50 inches or more so im assuming if you spent all your hard earned money on the PS3 like me you don't want to go out and pay 500$ and more than likely more for a HDTV.

So when shopping for a HDTV mainly being used to game on for the PS3 just look for 3 things 720p, 1080i and HDMI component input and you are good to go!

I somewhat agree, allthough games at 1080p are also at up to 60 frames per second and that is definately easier on the eyes. You are right that the differences could only be seen with side by side comparison, yet my friend who has the same tv as me only last years non 1080p version says he can see major differences between our two tvs. I have a kds502000a Sony Grand Wega SXRD (1080p) I am satisfied with this tv.

Also just because a tv supports 1080i does not mean it will truly output a 1080i signal (1920x1080 interlaced) look at many tvs sub HDTV native resolutions. the KDS502000A has a native resolution of 1920x1080p. So do some research on tvs before laying down $800+
