Ok, I'm sure there's probably a million posts about this already but whatever. I'm wondering is buying a 1080p t.v. really worth it or is 720p good enough for playing ps3 in hd. Or do I even need a hdtv?

thanks in advance

a HDTV is what you should buy if your buying a new TV ...

720p ... dont bother with a HDTV if it maxes out at 720p -- you want atleast 1080i AND 720p support, yes its worth it and yes make sure the HDTV your buying has HDMI ....

As for weather 1080p is worth it over 1080i its all opinan -- its worth it imo if your aiming for the best of the best - if you just want a good TV u dont really need it ... nor will u gain any magnificant benefit from it unless your TV is over 50" ...

Depends on size and distance to the screen. To be able to see the extra pixels in 1080 you have to sit closer than 5 feet from a 40" TV. 1080 is really only useful for big screens above 60". Unless you intend to sit really close of course.

720p is fine if you plan on buyin a HDTV thats under 40" anything higher your gonna want 1080p. Jus make sure it has a HDMI input.

All you need is 720p. Dont be fooled by 1080i its actually less quality than 720p......and most tvs now are HDTV.

I agree with the posts above. If you're going for a TV smaller then 40" then get a 720p, if you're going to buy a 40" or higher get one that supports 1080i and 720p. I've closely compared screens of 42" at 720p and 1080p and the difefrenceis not worth the bother, unless you're going for a 50" screen, but then you need to own a mansion to sit the required distance away from the screen. Most important is getting HDMI with your TV.

All of the above are correct, but to answer your question in a word......Yes.  Let the PS3 be the stepping stone to take you into 2007 and the next level which is HD viewing.

Don't listen to these people that just look at those viewing charts and tell you 1080p doesn't matter.  Most of them have never actually seen it for themselves.  I have a 40 inch 1080p tv and I can easily see the difference between 1080p and 720p.  If you have a tv that does 720p you should be fine, but if you're buying a new one get one that does 1080p.
