im gonna get a hdtv for my ps3, I was going to get a 40 or 46 inch sony flat screen lcd 1080p, which is kind of pricey but I still might get it, but I just saw this LG that is 42'' lcd flat screen 1080p and is about half the price of the sony tv. do any of you know if LG is a good reliable brand?

HD signals are digital (always get highest quality picture) as u may know. Therefore the difference between the two is probably not noticeable i would go with LG, unless u must have a sony product

LG makes pretty poor LCDs and plasmas. They are not on the level of Sony, Sharp, and Sammy with LCDs, or Panny, Pio, NEC, Fujitsu with plasmas.

The set has some decent clouding problems. If you don't intend to watch the set in a dark room you are fine.. otherwise you need to consider something else.

Go for a different set. You can get the Pioneer Elite 42" plasma for that price and have a great picture.

I've heard about alot of problems with plasmas, and they only last a certain amount of time, right?

They last just as long, if not longer, than LCDs. They are usually measured in terms of how long until they are half as bright as new. Both LCDs and Plasmas take about the same amount of time under similar circumstances. There really are no problems with plasmas besides heat dissipation.
