Hi Guys, I have tried several headsets on PS4 but none of them have been successful. I have various issues, mainly sound quality, feedback or just totally crap. I have tried

an old TB X31 (ate batteries constantly, sound wasn't great),

TB Stealth 500p (terrible feedback, sound was ok, friends heard terrible screeching sound through the mic),

TB XP510 (This just stopped working completely, even after fireware updates)

Sony Wireless 2.0 headset (This is what I am using when I need to chat but they are uncomfortable and the sound is pretty crap and it increases by itself)

I do use standard Sony headphones that I normal use for music when I am not chatting. This is as good as all the other sound quality of all the Turle Beach headsets I've used and a third of the price. I am no audiophile but I like nice clear crisp sounds and being able to distinguish between different sounds and directions.

I am now looking at various options but would like to know what would be best if possible before buying. Would I be just better to get either the

Astro A40 with Mixamp and just be done with it or go for either the AKG K612 Pro, the AKG K702 or the Sennheiser HD598 with the Astro Mixamp. I have also been looking at the Skullcandy PLYR1. I just don't know what I am looking for and I don't want to waste anymore money on headsets that are totally crap.

Any advise would be appreciated, thanks for reading.

@fuzzymonkey928:

I'm a headphone junkie myself. At the moment I'm using Sennheiser G4ME ONEs but they are really for PC.

I listened to a pair of Astros with the mixmap and was not impressed at all. My soundcard did a much better job of simulated surround sound than the mixmap....only thing mixmap did was boost the volume.

I did listen to some turtle beach PX4s and was really impressed...especially considering I have not been a turtle beach fan at all. I'm looking as well...trying to decide what to go with. Let me know what yo decide.

BTW I had the Sennheiser HD598....they are very cold sounding. They sound amazing...but very clinical.. That's the only way I can think to describe them.

Thanks for the reply. I am starting to take more of an interest in headphones too. I’m not quite a junkie yet lol. I just want something that helps immerse me in the game. I had a look at the Sennheiser G4ME ONE, how do they sound on the PS4?

I’ve not listened to any of the ones I mentioned as there is nowhere near me to try before I buy. I have seen mixed reviews for the Astro headsets. Some people like them but I don’t want to buy something for that price if they are going to be rubbish. Have you tried any other mixamps apart from the Astro?

The PX4 look ok but I have had a few bad experiences with Turtle Beach recently which has put me off Turtle Beach. They are way overpriced for what you get. I could maybe try these in a local store though.

Cheers for the heads up for the HD598, I would prefer a warmer sound I think but I will keep this as a maybe for the time being. I have been using the www.headphone.com site to get an idea of where the sound is.

They sound great on PS4 but they are just stereo with no simulated surround sound.

I was the first to bash Turtle Beach in the past. The PX4s sounded way better than I would have expected and simulated surround sound was also really well done. That said, I understand if you're hesitant. I still am as well but there are not many options for headsets for the PS4...unless like you said where you go with a mixamp.

You're right there isn't many good options for headsets for the PS4 and any i've tried have been very disappointing. Maybe i'm expecting too much!

After watching loads of reviews and reading loads on various sites I am wavering towards the AKG's with an amp of some sort(not sure which yet). Just worried that I get them and I don't see any difference or I don't get an amp strong enough to drive the headphones. I'm also a bit worried about all the cables as I play on my sofa in front of the tv.

I am no audiophile and just really want something that sounds great and immerses me into the game.
