The game is not meant to be played by mashing on buttons. There are three different stances to learn and dozens of combos for each stance. Pushing wildly on the buttons will not yield the best of results, but if that's how you want to play this incredible game, so be it.

Well fine... If you want to elaborate on what I said...:P
Sadly, I was among those that were turned off by the game's short length. I did get around to the demo & I was fairly impressed. So I'll eventually buy it once & if ever the price drops.Neo1O1
It has massive re-playability. I really tried hard to get a level 3 rating on all missions. I'm still only at 110/130??? or so.
Is it me or was this game just really about mashing buttons in that thats about it. I played thru it for about an hour then just quit cause i couldn't take it anymore. mustangwil50
It's just you. I doubt you beat the game since you said the already disproven myth of Heavenly Sword:
"Mashing buttons"
I bet your mashing had to stop right along Flying Fox...where you stopped.:P

We're about the same!:D
Hell Mode isn't that hard...unless you're foolish enough to attempt...
"The mashing of the buttons!"
Glad you play it like I do!

Indeed :D
must be just you. the game is awesome and in further stages and especially boss fights if all you do is button mash you're as good as dead. then you have Kai's stages which have nothing to do with button mashing. Pearl_of_EgyptI can answer the original poster's problem in twelve words: Casual gamer.

I am not even close to be an RPG person, but I still enjoyed the game a lot. the sixaxis use in it is brilliant. that for me was worth playing the entire game, plus you're not suppose to button-mash, you should try to combos...etc
Of course this game is a button masher ... if you're unfamiliar with the concept of "combos" ... you know ... timed presses of certain buttons to pull off spectacular, badguy killing moves ... and requiring a lot of skill
off-topic note: everyone is back to level 2 on this thread :D ... me too  ... lol
I never saw any samurai or giant crabs.:shock:HEAVENLY SWORD IS GENJI PART 2!!!!! IT'S OVER RATED AND SUCKS!!!!!

i think other than length (which is a huge downside to HS), the other problem with this game is its difficulty. on medium/normal... this game is mediocre at best. there really is no reason to use the combo system since mashing buttons easily gets you by. on hard, using the combo system becomes more necessary, which is a really good thing. the only problem at that point is that learning 3-4 combos from all three fighting stances is enough to get by throughout the whole game on hard. if NT made using ALL of the combo system more necessary, this game wold have had much more depth.
to the TC... what game difficulty did you play this game on?
i acually agree with him, i just rented this game and im so glad it was just a rent, the graphics suck to me, its so easy, boring, and the stupid bow and arrow missions really suck. i mean its fun to see her do those sick moves, but all i did was mash the buttons the whole time as well, i mean, how are you supposed to kill all those guys planning each attack, like this guy im gunna hold R2 and kill him with []-[]-O then the next guy a long range attack L2-O-[]-O. this is a good rent, but nothing more IMHO, i found no replay value.j_sound
Graphics suck... You're joking right... Are you sure you were playing Heavenly Sword and not just looking at a box of Fruit Loops or something...

LOL... or maybe he was just playing on a regular tv... but agreed, the gfx are pretty awesome.
Yes it is just you. You can't just button mash in this game.Cedmln
Indeed.
And Heavenly Sword is great, imo.
This is by meansNOT a button masher game. You MIGHT/COULDprobably get through parts ofthe game by "button mashing" but there are sections where having skills pays the bills (as the saying goes).
My only gripe which is probably the most common among all is the length of the game itself. TWO THUMBS UP to graphics, storyline & gameplay! I will buy this game againwhen the price goes down around $20 to $30. I bought this game the 1st week it came out & returned it the next day after completing the game withing 6 to 7hrs. I did the same for God of War 2 by the way & I'll probably buy it again eventually when the price is lower.
For those who didn't enjoy Heavenly Sword, just keep your negativecomments to yourself. It's really unnecessary to say anything negative about this game because your credibility on this board will probablydiminish since most people do enjoy the game & already know it's positive & negative values it brings.

Problem is, you can get through the game on the default difficulty by simply mashing buttons. Sure, your not supposed to play it that way, but its very possible. Now don't hand me a "well, thats what harder difficulties are for!"

If one doesn't want to learn the game and appreciate it the way it was meant to be played, again I say, that's their problem. You can play Heavenly Sword any way you wish but you can't fault the game for being a simple button masher when it's not, and it doesn't encourage you to play that way.
I use Hitman: Blood Money as an example. The game is about stealth, learning your target's paths, tendencies and scouting the level. On my first play through I simply chose to rush through every level and just kill my target. By the end of the game I was bored and when I finished it I was seconds away from selling it. I failed to take advantage of the skills at my disposal and I failed at taking the time to figure everything out.
Stupid me.
Thankfully I sat down and played it again, this time the way it was intended. Playing it that way made all the difference in the world, and I went on to beat the game 5 more times. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game the way it was intended to be played. Had I not gone back and played it through I would probably have criticized the game for my failure to play it the intended way, which would have been unjust. Luckily for me I went back and put in the time and I was greatly rewarded.
My point is that you can greatly alter your enjoyment of a game based on how you play it. Of course you can run through just about any game, failing at learning how to truly play it, but what's the point? I don't know about you but I don't buy games simply to rush through to the end. When I play a game I take my time and learn the ins and outs of the game. I attempt to master any game I play instead of button mashing through to the end.
You guys play however you want, but I'm telling you this from experience that you'll not appreciate such great games if you play that way. But hey, it's your game, play it how you wish.

It's you......I don't believe button mashing will get you too far in the game.
i don't hate HS, i just know its not a great game.
i don't hate GOW, i just know its a little overrated in terms of its combat
GOW and HS are similar, great story, presentation, characters, music, etc but the combat for both suck. But the funny thing is, HS get the heat for it while GOW doesn't. k maybe i was being a little blunt about GOW its combat is average and doesn't deserve the praise it gets. HSs combat just blows...

yeah im sure i was playing hs, and compared to some other games the graphics suck, and cutscenes arent much btter, looks a little better than a good ps2 gameHeavenly Sword is a fantastic game if you take the time to enjoy it. Many people just rush through games and in the end find themselves disappointed.
