I've never played a Metal Gear game and I'm looking to get caught up before the new one comes out.

I own a Wii as well so I'm interested in buying Twin Snakes. (Before you flame, I know this is a PS3 board but since Metal Gear has always supported PS systems I'm hoping to target as many Metal Gear fans as possible here)

IAnyway, 'm a little confused, is this game a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid on PS1 and Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty on PS2 or is this just a remake of the original Metal Gear on the PS1 with added controls from MG2?

So in english, does this game include MGS 1 & 2 or just a beefed up MGS 1?

Also, does anyone have any other recommendations for which games to buy for getting caught up?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It's a beefed up MGS1. It's MGS1 on 'roids with MGS2 controls.

I recommend playing all Metal Gear Solid games before playing MGS4, otherwise it'll be a great, awesome, REALLYconfusing game instead of being just great, awesome and confusing.

I also recommend getting Subsistence and playing Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on Disc 2.

I wonder how they'll handle the Psycho-Mantis part on the Wii...man that was neat. Wait until you get to that part! :)

So if I buy Subsistence I'll be covered with all of the Metal Gear games? Metal Gear 1,2 & 3? That would be awesome, do you know if they would play on widescreen on my PS3?

Thanks for all of the responses

No no, Subsistence has Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, along with Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake from the MSX system in the late 80's, they were the original games and they're 8-bit. It's not completely necessary to play those but I had fun with them, and why not? They come free with Subsistence.

So here's what you should get: The Twin Snakes, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance(MGS2:Sons of Liberty with extra VR missions), Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence(MGS3 Snake Eater with an online mode that is now finished, sadly, and MG and MG2: Solid Snake), and if you're so inclined and you have extra money, geta PSP and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops + when it comes out because Portable Ops is, in my opinion, a PSP system-seller.

If you buy Subsistence, you'll be covering just MGS3 and the first two Metal gear games made back in 1987. Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. They are still part of the storyline but not as essential as Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, though.

Do that, but make sure you see both endings for the original MGS

Listen to this post quotation above this guy is exactly right. Awesome. You won't regret it. And yes Portable Ops is awesome.
