Hi, i was playing borderlands today and the ps3 froze on me, so now it won't read the disc. Thing is this started happening 2 days ago with MGS4 and then my nhl 10 stopped reading as well. Just curious if my disc reader is pooping out on me and if it is how easy is it to fix.

If it is in fact broken i will probably buy a slim and give this one to a buddy for free so he can just pay to get it fixed. My last question is can i use a flash drive to switch the data between this ps3 and a new slim if i get one or do i just have to swap the hard-drives. Thnk in advance.

You can't just swap the hard drives, sadly. I don't know why Sony is so paranoid.

Yes you can use a USB drive thats what i did. I had a 40g that stopped reading discs but everything else still worked so i just put everything on my slim. I have still yet to decide what to do with my 40g lol.

Sounds like the lens is broken. You can try this, but chances are it's the lens. It's actually a pretty cheap and easy fix, you can get a new lens online for about $60 or so and fix it yourself. It's easy. Or your friend can I guess.

I just recommend paying 99 bucks and get it fixed by sony them self. The extra 40 bucks lets say is just an insurance policy incase you screw up.

It costs a whopping $150 in the US. And it's honestly very easy to fix, just check out an online tutorial. There are written ones, and I've heard there are some on youtube as well.

150? Just buy a xbox 4 year warrenty and its only 299 for an elite with 2 games. Ehh, i just wouldnt rewire something when its still under warrenty? So even if your ps3 is broken and still under warrenty you have to pay? My ps3 has been fine for 2 years so.. i wouldnt know.

It's more than $150. I just got YLOD and tried to go through Sony before I used my warranty at Target. It's $150 plus $29 for shipping + tax. So $200 or so. Ridiculous.

Who would want to buy a 360 if their PS3 broke? That would be like buying another broken DVD player after yours has broken.
