I was playing call of duty and my Ps3 just froze, and the red light wouldn't stop flashing. Then when i flicked the switch off then on again and turned it on, the green light suddenly turned yellow and the red flashing light came again. I plugged out the main cable and left it to cool down. Is there a non-technical way to deal with this or do i have to phone the Sony guys up. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The only thing you really can do is call Sony but there is a temporary fix though. Just look up on youtube on how to fix the ylod ps3. Also, if your ps3 is under warranty, then don't open up the ps3 and send it to Sony.

All that has been said is true. Sony will charge the 150 to give you a refurbished version of your current system. What is usually the cheapest and most convenient way to fix it is to take it to a console repair shop. They can sometimes just replace the broken piece of hardware and yer golden again. But this is not always the case, and still normally costs at least 100 bucks however you can keep your save games and all that.

You as soon as you plug that 500gb HDD into a new PS3, your data will be gone right?

They do this so people don't cheat for trophies I guess.

the only thing you can do is give sony a call...but why pay sony $150 and get a refurb ps3 back that has a higher chance of failing on you again....so i would just buy another ps3....but i can see if money tight i would go that route.

No, only removing the seal to open the PS3 removes the warranty . I would however keep my original HD to swap once you got YLOD-ed .
