Well i understand that he might have a job and hate other things to spend him money on. So everyone stop being so dismissive. Maybe he likes gaming but he likes going to the movies more.
As for convincing your mom, kid, tell her a couple of things.
1. It plays HD movies, which are really cool. Bring her to a best buy and let her see for herself.
2. It's just gotten a price cut, and the 499 models are in limited (though abundant) supply.
3. Tell her it's BC so you can play all your old PS2 games on it, which is awesome.
4. Tell her you'll chip in some money too.
5. Set up compromises from the start. Having a discussion about things like playtime, what TV to put it on, etc, give people the impression that buying it is already a done deal.
6. Give her something first, like maybe clean your room, wash the dishes, something special that isn't over the top. She's feel favourably towards you and will be more inclined to grant your desires.
7. Don't sound desperate. If you sound like someone who's addicted to videogames and plays them for three hours a day, then most healthy parents wouldn't want to give you a PS3. Be mature and reasonable.
8. Learn to compromise, wait, and save. She might not want to get one now, but maybe in august she will.
