I wouldn't say DS is "fun", intense OK but not fun
Borderlands is fun, characters are crazy, combat is insane, getting new weapons gets frantic ... good thing is weapons/powers is very different from main 4 characters, and missions are displayed differently so have to use diffrent strategies
You should really be deciding this based on whether you want a dungeon crawler or an FPS - both have RPG qualities but they are very different games. Borderlands is too easy for some, and Demon's Souls is too hard for some. Kind of depends on what kind of games you enjoy most. I liked both for different reasons, but Demon's Souls to me was one of the very best games of the past few years and has the most original use of online I have seen in a long time.
Demon's Souls is a better choice of game to purchase. However, if your the type of person who gets impatient and frustrated easily, Demon's Souls isn't the correct game for you. It's a perfect game for those who take their time and enjoy in depth of the gameplay.
I would really recommend Demon Souls. The only thing that would take away from the game is it's unforgiving difficulty. Borderlands is much, much, much more easy and forgiving. However Demons Souls is very rewarding regardless of the difficulty and is well worth all the blood sweat and tears that goes into playing the game.
What's this Borderlines you speak of? :P
I'll compare though:
*Demon's Souls*
+Challenging
+Medieval
+Awesome online
+Great combat
+Different play styles
+Nice dark atmosphere
+Nice level up system
-Non existent story
-Could be too frustrating (no pause, no checkpoints)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
*Borderlands*
+Lots of guns
+Four different classes
+The RPG+FPS combo is perfect
+awesome co-op
+Humorous
-Long loading times
-Linear
-Horrible story
-Bad level up system
-Bad framerate (at launch, have not played since)
-Glitches (at launch, have not played since)
Demon's is for the hardcore gamer that's willing to put time into the game.
Borderlands is for everyone.
I think Demon's Souls is far better.
yeah, I'll have to recomend Demons Souls as well, the game got me hooked as hell, couldn't stop playing till I finished it, clocked at 90 hours if I'm not mistaken(for the first playthrough), since then I don't play as much but still play a lot, made 2 new characters, finished my first character new game plus(boy was that hard or what), so to sum it up, get the damn game.
and as others already said you better get it now before ATLUS takes the servers down, it's a sad thing but it will happen sooner or later, given the game's success I'll give it at least another year of online functionality, I heard somewhere that the original plan was to terminate the servers this coming April, but I guess that when they decided that they didn't imagine the game would do this well, so back there in the atlus forums everyone is hoping that this fact will give the servers a greater longevity.
FYI Borderlands is hardly an RPG. The only real RPG elements to it is there are 4 classes with small skill trees and the loot in the game. It's even less of an RPG than Fallout 3. It's still one of my new favorite games though :) it's a ton of fun co-op. Single player can get a little lonely.

Demon's Souls, you won't regret it. I don't feel the need to explain why, Demon's Souls needs no introduction. It is just there, existing, dominating.
As for Borderlands, I love the look of it and am gonna get it...buuut only when my buddy grabs it as well, then we're gonna co-op through. Get Borderlands if you like, but only if you have a friend on here/IRL that has it so you have someone to play with. Else it basically just becomes a very long single player campaign that focuses on grinding. Which is fine if that's your thing, but it's still better with at least another player.
