I've got a new TV to use my PS3 with. The console is set to 1080i (1080p won't work for some reason). It's ok when I've got the XMB up, but whenever I start a game up the resolution automatically changes to 720p, at which point the TV screen keeps flashing blue. It's very irritating. Help would be much appreciated.

The games are probably in 720p, which is why it switches to that when you start one. Try switching the output on the PS3 to 720p, see if that helps. At least it shouldn't be switching back and forth between 1080i and 720p.

Most games runs à 720p only. You're probably playing one of those game. So your PS3 changes it's output resolution to 720p. I though most TV were to adjust to the change seemlessly, as mine is one of the first HDTV and does it. If you cannot get 1080p in the XMB and your TV is 1080p, it may be because you're not connected with an HDMI cable, (component I guess?).

It doesn't matter if you're using an HDMI cable or not. If the game doesn't support higher than 720p then you're best bet is to listen to what the guys said above and change your settings.

The above posters are right. Alot of games are set for 720p only so your tv will adjust to the 720 p which isnt a big problem. I mean you won't even really be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 unless you have a fairly large tv. I would just leave the settings alone because those games which are 1080 wont adjust down to 720 from the xmb. So I dont see it as annoying at all so just leave the settings alone imo and enjoy your games its working like it should.

iirc, interlaced (the 'i' in 1080i) graphics aren't ideal for motion graphics anyhow. Most games you play are going to want progressive scan (the 'p' in 720p) since it's better suited for motion graphics and your visual experience will be better. Techheads feel free to correct this if it's inaccurate.
