Does it happen if you change the channel? What kind of video cable do you use?

Maybe you just got a defective PS3? I'd give Sony a call.

wow....

well in the box u would have got a cable that has on one end of it, a yellow, red, and white cable. the yellow cabel is for video and the white and red for stereo sound (hope thats not to complex for you....). If u have a decent High definition TV made within the last 3-5 years, there is a good chance you'll have the option to use HDMI. look at this website for the logo, and what the cabel and port on the TV look like, just google in the images section HDMI to see what it looks like. the HDMI cable is not included in the box for the PS3, but it might have come in a bundle, so just ask Santa(INSERT SPOILER TAG)parents(END SPOILER TAG) if there was anything else that came with the PS3. Otherwise just buy a cheap one (around the $10US mark for most electronic stores, u dont need to spend up on an expensive one unless u'll be unplugging often, because usually the expensive ones have better warranties and build quaility to stop them falling apart). this HDMI cable will replace all the cables that came with the PS3 for video and sound (obviously not the power cable though). Once plugged in u may need to hold the ON button on the PS3 for 20 seconds until it beeps at you three times (this resets your video settings). if this doesnt fix your game then i dunno.

yer okay i got it. so reseting the video settings doesnt delete any game progress or anything?
