I was playing COD4 and then it froze, i tried to quit which didn't work so i tried to turn the PS3 off which didn't work so I had to turn off the power.

Now it wont read any discs I put in it.

I tried to turning it off and on a few times, tried to format the HDD and it still doesn't read any discs.

So now I've lost all my saved games and demos i DLed and it still wont work.

Can anyone help me please?

I'm going to take it back if I can't find a fix.

Place said PS3 unit on a window ledge and adjust it's angle to about 45 degrees. At this point it should fall from the window and land on an unsuspecting passerby, killing him instantly. He probably was destined to perish this way anyhow...

Seriously. If you have only had it for a little bit see if the store will take it back. If not call sony and deal with their hellish tech support. They will prolly send you a huge box in a week, you mail your ps3 back to them and they either fix or replace it.

( Watching Hentai Blu-Rays voids your warranty so if you have been doing that just go with my first suggestion )

This may help.

First shut the system down for a couple of hours to allow it to cool down completely. Then try to restart everything back up but make sure there is plenty of space around the system to allow air to flow in and out of the console freely. There have been a few people that has had this happen and after doing the above things never had another problem.

If this doesn't work then call Sony tech support or if you have had the system for a very short time you may be able to exchange it for a new one.

Hmmmm.....how abouuuuuuuuuuut....calling sony? That sounds like the smartest thing to do right now. Explain it to sony and see what they say. That should be the #1 move when something like that happens. Is this a new ps3?

A similar thing happened to me on Christmas morning. I just unwrapped COD4, put it in for the first time, so i had to update it. Well, the update kept freezing at 18 percent...then the system shut off and it wont turn back on....the game is still inside.

When I hear people say sony's tech support is great it makes me shiver. I spent hours on the phone with them trying to resolve an issue where i couldn't download the firmware patches. All they would say is " send it back to us ". Turns out it was just that the PS3 needed ports opened that aren't open by default on alot of wireless routers.

It is their job to know things like that.

About 90% of all tech support is like that, the people you were dealing with are the level 1's who just read off a script and or just ask you to in this case "Send it back". These people are there to weed through the problems that require to just reboot. If there is a genuine problem they bump it up to the level 2 tech support people who actually know stuff.

Not 100% sure what Sony does but I know from experience doing tech support on the phone is not something that is very fun to do as some people just do not use common sense.

That's exactly what happened to me. Is yours a 40gb too? I guess I'll have to call them, but I hate tech support and avoid it when I can. Do you think it has something to do with COD4, since this didn't happen with any of my other games.

Mines the 60GB version and I don't know if it was COD4, I'd say if it was lots more people would be having these problems.

I've kept my PS3 well ventilated and I'm always checking to see how warm it is and it wasn't that warm at the time.

I'm just going to take the piece of S*** back to the store and get a new one and let them deal with sony.

Seems like a lot of these problems come from CoD4 (Just an observation please don't flame me!)

yeah, I've heard a lot of people had it freeze on COD4 while I was researching the problem. It's an awesome game though, I can't wait to play it again when i get it fixed.....whenever that is....

Some people think that it's a software problem, not hardware, since they have only been happening recently. Something about the updates...

I had the exact same problem happen to my PS3. I was also playing COD4. My PS3 is only two months old too (80gb version). I called Sony and they are sending a coffin for me to send it back in. :( I called on Dec. 26th, but I still haven't received the box yet. Hopefully it gets repaired soon; I have to go back to college in a couple weeks.

i don´t think the version of the PS3 matters, it´s because you guys switched on the back button, and didn´t turned it off like it should be turned off

my PS3 have frozen too, and i just put the finger in the sensitive power button for some secondsand then the PS3 makes some beep **** and after a couple of seconds it turns off

did you guys putter your beautiful fingers on the sensitive power button for some seconds? or just touched it

When it froze while playing COD4, I could still access the PS button menu. So I turned off my PS3 using the controller. Then I turned it back on using the controller and it would not read any discs (BluRay, DVD, games). The disc drives for the PS3 just seems to be the Achilles heel of a great system.
