HELP! My PS3 won't play the games.

My PS3 doesn't read the game CD's. My brother was playing Resistance when the game froze. After that it doesn't read any discs. I tried putting CoD4 and Resistance in but it won't start the game. The rest of the PS3 (like the Internet) seems to work fine.

What's the deal? How do I fix this?

my ps3 is doing the same thing now i was playing GTA4 and they kept doing glitches and at first i could play gta but then it kept on frezzing so i thought it was the game and then the ps3 wouldn't read the games so i stpped playing 4 a day and its doing the same thing the best thing to do call sony or ask gamestop if the fix systems or if they could see what the problem is

Same thing happened to me.....i decided to call Sony rather then fix it my self.......my warranty expired w eek after i called do i gto lucky

 DONT AND I REPEAT DONT try to open it ur self or sony wont take it.

 I waited two weeks and got it fixed....apparently the thing that reads the discs was fried

so in conclusion just send it to sony ( IF UR WARRANTY IS STILL ACTIVE) and it wont cost u a thing worst case they will send u a new one no charge...... 

it may just be too much dust in the way of the lazer of the drive.  thats what happened to my ps2 and i fixed it by cleaning it.  and ive heard this has worked on

Did you put the disc in on the right side?

If that doesn't work check the disc. Or maybe your PS3 has a case of "GetMeFixeditis"

i called sony, costs 150$ to get a new ps3 if your 1 year warrenty is up(i know bs right?) I've been on atleast 13 other forums with ALOT of people having the same problem....on one forum there was 32 pages of people saying there ps3 wont read disks and i see alot of people saying "call sony" like that is a fix...and its really annoyingSiilverfoxx

Well thats what you got to do, unless you want to replace the Blu-ray laser yourself.

I bought my PS3 off of ebay and i'm not sure if I have a warrenty on it. The same things has just started to happen with me and COD5. If I don't have a warrenty on it will it cost me anything? If so what am I looking at?boomdigga227

You do know that sony is still loosing 39 bucks per console right? Be happy they are selling it for 400 bucks anyways

Mine just stop playing my games to. It is a 60 gig I bought 2 years ago from a store not open anymore. Worst part is I don't even play it enough for a problem to have occured.

well, no there is no easy way to fix this.

unfortunetely it seems the 40GB version is nm ore prone to this kind of problem... and mine is a 40GB... I just hope it holds for at least a year more..

if your warranty is already out you could try and replace the laser module yourself, you can buy them on dealextreme for example and here's a tutorial I found

Yes this seems quite common however you can fix this you just need to readjust the laser lens it comes off key a little.

Of course you can send it in for repair i used this guide to fix it and got it done in 30 mins! :)

The problem is your blu ray drive. luckily, you have several options. 1) if it's still under warranty, have sony replace it.

2) Buy a replacement blu ray drive and have it installed by somone who knows what their doing. Some independent game shops or electronics maintanace places provide this service.

3)Sometimes only a specific part of the drive need replacing, most often the lens unit. you can have that replaced by itslef
