 Last night we (adults) downloaded to our PS3 from the internet. We don't want our boys playing it so we want to lock it. However, it's just rated 'T' which means if I lock it out via the parental rating, they can't play their other games they like (and are allowed to play) like Motorstorm. We tried to just assign a kids user (it was downloaded as user 'mom') - but the game is for all users so no matter what user we set it on, they can play it. Is there a way to lock out a downloaded game only? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!kjohnsonusa
Check out all your System Settings .. I believe there is a place to place a Parental Lock .. so they have to type a code to play the game .. I think .. someone quote me if I'm wrong ..
Thankfully (or unfortunately for your kids :P) it isn't as simple as PG13/T lock and rated R lock...
In the Security settings under the "settings" tab, you can set the parental control up to 9 different levels, it's a different option from just the 'on/off' perental control...
Just press triangle on the game you wanna lock in the PS3 browser and look at "information", it will say at what parental control number that game is set, then just lower the parental control setting a notch under... It probably has a higher setting than your kid's game if that game has objectable content...
I guess also being able to lock games on a case-by-case basis would be easier in this case... Anyways let us know if that solves your problem... If it doesn't maybe an angry email to Sony asking for such functionality in a patch would be a good idea...
Aside from that I don't know... What game are we talking about for curiosity's sake?
Kudos to you, kjohn.
You're part of only a handful of parents who know what they're really doing when it comes to video games.
Good luck.
Oh, and I don't know if this will help, but try creating another User account on the PS3, and then making for them a "Sub Account" on PSN.
See if it works.
Well I can see a ton of reasons why parents would not want their kids playing PAIN!, but what is the sexual content? The in-game Billboards or the female models?
Motorstorm being a lvl5 seems wrong to me... I encourage you to write to Sony since this looks like a case of "a lil' patch goes a long way" kind of thing... Like asking for the ability to lock up individual games or password protect them...
Again I'm totally not questionning your judgement, it's really not my place to, I just want your honest opinion on what constitutes objectable sexual content in PAIN! my dear friend... :)
i'd like to know too really... i have pain and at no point was i caught offguard by sexual content. i would understand self inflicted injury though... to a certain extent...Well I can see a ton of reasons why parents would not want their kids playing PAIN!, but what is the sexual content? The female models for one with their generously sized bust, skimpy clothing (Leading to panty shots) and sexy gyratings as you pose them when they fl.
Plus, if you hit the hotel letts just right you can make the words HOT ORAL SEX
LOL! if your kid isn't old enough to play Pain what is he/she even doing with a PS3??? and none of the innuendos in PAIN are that bad.. like... PG13 movie stuff tops.americahellyeahhe's the parent, it's his choice. that's part of the perks of being a parent.
To each his own on parenting
But Motorstorm crashes are pretty violent, much worse than any bust size in pain imo.
Seems our society is so scared of any sexuality it's seen as worse than violence
anyways back on point, Pain is a small game I'd just delete it and redownload it later, provided your kids don't have access to the store and or know how to look at download history.
OK no need to get into an ethics and values debate here, I do agree that IMHO violence is much worse than skimpy outfits... I don't believe that sheltering kids do them better than explaining and making them understand what is out there either... If I wanted to play devil's advocate I would say that just leaving a pen lying around would let those kids write much worse stuff than "Hot Oral Sex" and that a Sears catalog has a lot more underwear than PAIN!...
But that's besides the point, parents have a right to raise their kids however they want and any of our opinions do not count on that matter unless we also have kids...
He does have a point about not being to lock up an individual game... The way it is set up right now is obviously meant to be faster than having to lock up games one by one, but it does not address same level games like he said...
A parent's letter carries a lot of weight my man, and it is amazing how many things an angry parent can accomplish in a day, do write to Sony and expose your problem to them... Even if I disagree with you on the objectable content (and as I've said it is not my or anyone else's business to judge how you wanna raise your kids), I'm behind you 120% on the fact that it could be managed better by adding just a little option to be able to password protect individual games...
