Wait till it beeps once, then let go. If you hold for 5 seconds the audio/video settings are reset.

The same thing happened to me a few times when i first got my PS3. I just turned it off from the back and gave it a rest. Is it a constant problem? It only happened to me once.

Ok guys just found out the problem. It has something to do with my HD monitor/DVi cable.I just disconnected it from my HD monitor and connected it to a normal SD tv with AV cables and its turning off/on/reseting the resolution by holding the power button PERFECTLY fine !! :S

And on HD if i hold the button for more than 5 secs on startup it doesnt reset the resolution either :S

So anyone of you got any idea about this ??

There is a toggle switch in the back of the console, you must flick it in order to turn off the red light. You can also use you control pad to switch off the system also, but if you want the red light off use the switch.

You can turn off your console in the XMB, or by pressing the PS button on your controller, or by using the switch on the back of the unit.

The only time I use the touch button on the front is if I need to reset from a crash (damn bluetooth).

Actually, come to think of it, do you have a bluetooth headset?

My 60GB PS3 crapped out because I abused the reset button. I was switching back and forth between an HDTV and SDTV playing PS3 and PS2 games.. What happens is, the PS3 doesnt recognize the resolution whether it be an HDTV or SDTV. This is a problem that Sony refuses to fix. I dont have a clue why they wont fix it. This has happened to a lot of PS3 owners, according to the Sony rep. There have been many complaints. But it's uncommon that it breaks like mine did. I dont know why the PS3 doesnt upscale or downscale like the Xbox 360 does when you use a different resolution. After all those complaints, they dont do a thing about it and that pisses me off. I about damn near gave up on Sony after my 60gig crapped out on me because of this. If it werent for MGS4, I wouldnt be owning a PS3 today. /shakesfist at Sony. For the crappy customer service support and unawareness, I will never buy a Sony product again unless it's a Sony gaming console. I love games. What can you do? :P

If you hold your power button for a REALLY long time, it will shut off. But your PS3 sounds like it's pretty screwed.. Sorry mate.

I always turn on/off my PS3 buy using the controller on/off feature. I dont trust that touch-sensitive button.

You might want to avoid doing that. The PS3 is like a computer. Its best to shut it down through the software menu.
