I just bought a new ps3 slim and i had it hooked up working just fine with the av cables to my tv. i wanted to hook it up to an external pc monitor so i bought an hdmi cable and tried to hook it up. i went through all the setup and found that it works just fine but ONLY if the av cables are attached too. as soon as i unplug the av cables, the screen goes black. obviously the hdmi cable is fine otherwise it wouldnt work in the first place, and i cant have the av cables hooked up to my pc monitor because there is no input there for it. please help!
I'm not sure I understand.. when you have the av cables and the hdmi plugged in, it will display in HD? or is it just displaying through the av cables? because the way it sounds, it's not even registering the hdmi cable
i already reset the settings and set them back up to go to hdmi again and it works but again, only if the av cables remain plugged into my tv. Nothing displays on the tv but it has to remain plugged in for the picture to display on my pc monitor over hdmi

when i plug it in via hdmi only, nothing happens, totally black even after resetting it. ps3gamer11
Normally the PS3 takes a few seconds to recognize the connection via HDMI and then displays the optimal settings for your monitor so I suggest plugging in via HDMI and waiting for a minute.

The yellow one is the only one that has to be plugged into the tv for the hdmi to work. I tried waiting, left it alone for about 30 min actually. Nothing.

The problem might either be with the TV HDMI port or the PS3's.I recommend you test your PS3 on a another HD display and use different HDMI cables.If that doesn't work call Sony.
