Hey guys. So at the end of the month I'm buying a PS3 w/ my birthday money. I was looking at my HDTV and it has an HDMI Port in the back of it and next to it it has either input or output for red and white cables. What I'm asking is if those cables are inputs, can i use the HDMI Cable in my PS3, and then plug in the standard cables into the other input and then into the Red and White input/output.

the "red and white" cables are called "composite cables" it'll work just fine if you plug your PS3 in via HDMI and the composite outputs on the TV go to the stereo receiver...

If it turns out it is not an output, can I do the double cables in the ps3?

yes you can use the composite output on the PS3 for audio and the HDMI for video at the same time... also if your stereo has an optical input you could use that..

Just one note - you have to go in under audio settings in the PS3 and tell it that you are doing video through HDMI, but sound through optical / composite. Then you MAY also have to test different sound options depending on what your receiver can receive.

It is not complicated and it works fine- I am running an optical to the receiver, but had to change some small setting to get the sound working right frequenzy or something

if he's just using composite it'll be automatic, he just will need to go to audio output settings on his PS3...
