Help switching from HDMI to A/V cables

My HDTV is located in a room where there isn't any internet connection nearby; so when I want to update my PS3 or download from the store I need to move my PS3 to a room with a regular SD TV, however the PS3 doesn't autodetect that I changed from a HDMI cable to an A/V cable. I've tried changing it in the setup, but when I select A/V cable I get stuck on a screen where I have to select which resolutions my TV supports, but then I can't enter anything, I can only go back, which reverts to HDMI..........anyone know what the deal is?

in my experience, the ps3 doesnt autodetect which output cables you are using...if you are switching from hdmi to av....hold down the power button for about 5 seconds and it will change it for you.dooguesgoober4

It autodected my HDMI.

It autodected my HDMI.

HDMI actually needs a handshake from the display so that would be an easy autodetect.

It autodected my HDMI.

Mine as well. Maybe it doesn't autodetect for AV cables?
