i was having the same problem, my PS3 wouldn't see my router anymore and every time I would try to connect to it it would make my router act funny (like disconnect from the internet). It took about 5 router resets before things started working again and I hope it stays that way (knocks on wood, :P ). I have a LinkSys router (don't know the model). That's all I know. All I can say is just keep reseting things and see if they start working again. I wonder if this has something to do with the media server thing

Linksys here to and i have the same prob.. it's as if my router keeps turning itself on and off when i have the PS3 hooked up... started as soon as i got the update, glad to know its not my router thats broke seeing other people have the problem, but we need to find away to fix this...

I would keep tring to reset till it works but it seems to do that on its own when i hook up the ps3... any1 know if there are any ports that need tobe opened because of the media servers?

The solution is to turn off the DLNA server on the ps3. Go to the network settings in your xmb and turn it off.

I think it's crashing your routers because it's constantly sending out packets.

yeah, i just came to the same conclusion... now we just need a fix to get the media servers to work...

So now we have:

-DISABLE media server connection in network settings

no luck for me, resetting like a mad man would be pointless because when the PS3 had Media Server enabled it crashed my router resetting it on its own... i dont really see how i can have Media Server enabled right now... maybe Sony have to gives us another update to fix it.. if any1 finds out how to get it working, by messing with their router or connection setting let us know

yeah, your right, as soon as I turned off my PS3 and turned it back on, it crashed my router again... I too hope they get a fix for this so we can have the media server... though I was just really happy to get the upscaling. :P :)

same here after the firmware update and turning off the ps3... my  wireless internet connection stops working. 3 of my computers in the house are unable to connect to the internet wirelessly. they couldn't detect the router anymore. what i did was i turned both the modem and router off for 1 min. Turned modem on, waited for 1 min, then turned the router on. the internet is back to its normal self. it looks like that media server on the ps3 is causing the router to reboot. i've seen 3rd party softwares such as port magic which are capable of causing modems and routers to reboot. media server may be fiddling with the port settings on the router. i think the only solution i can think of is by opening the proper ports on the router in order to prevent it from happening again. at this point im leaving my ps3 off until i figure out what port to open.

i already did some testing and it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the port settings. I manually assign a private ip(192.168.1.69, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.1.1) to the ps3. turned on DMZ(open all ports) on the router using the assigned ip 192.168.1.69. Turned off and on the ps3. it's still booting the other pc off the wireless internet. by the way i also have a linksys router and comcast modem. there is something unusual about the media server connection. for now im leaving it off until sony comes up with a solution. im not in any hurry to use the new feature. the upscale is impressive because i just tried some of my ps2 games. looks much better than before.

yeah, sorry I forgot to mention the port thing too. If you look under the media player's help file it tells you what ports you need to have open to use the media server and I opened all of those on my router (the DMZ is another option :P ). I too had no new luck.

Here are the port numbers and protocols if anybody else wants to give it a go, but it seems for the most part this isn't the issue:

Port --- Protocol
1900 --- UDP
2869 --- TCP
10243 --- TCP
10280-10284 --- UDP

(I just took these from the Media Players help file)

Hey guys, can someone break this down in Stupid guy terms...for me lol

Ok i believe i had the same issue, I issued the 1.8 update, I have a Linksys Wireless router as well,

It kept signing me out of my Psn acct, so i came here, i read this thread,

I go to my PS3 and i disabled under Network settings, my Media connection....

Ok now for my question, and i need this in simple.. stupid guy terms.. pleeease  lol

Ok I have 1 port lit on my Linksys router, for my internet, USUALLY before.. when i went online with my PS3,  PORT 2 was lit....

Now im online with my PS3, but PORT 2 isnt lit....   Im confused?? am i still having the issues you all were talking about or am i good??  or is the Wirless router still not recognizing since PORT 2 isnt lit... if this is the case... HOW DO I RESET MY CONNECTION....  no clue.. im lost LOL

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, considering im new to all this wireless stuff

well stupid man terms for the problem we're having is:

"The PS3's latests patch is messed up, the new Media Servers that lets you take videos, images and music from your PC to put them on your PS3 makes your Router crash, taking everything connected to it offline as it resets itself, turn it off in the network options to fix the problem, though Media Servers wont work anymore... Right now theres no solution other then to wait and see what sony has to say"

Your new problem(because it seems you did have the same problem till you disabled media servers) seems tobe something else, nothing todo with what we're talking about... if not having a visual aid telling you whats pluged where is really bothering you then try resetting your Router(or just unpluging it and repluging it), or doing the connection setup again (select easy so you dont have to bust your balls) seeing as your PS3 can connect it dosnt seem like that big a problem really...

Same here, update was too perfect to be true :(, but yeah my connection stoped working after the update and keeps conflicting with my other IPs on my network. Seems to be the best best is to manualy configure your DNS and IP Adresses. Hope Sony brings a fix for this soon. However the upscaling is still amazing despite the network problems.

I disabled media server connection and everything works fine now. Its sad how they put something in the update, but it has some problems. I guess all we can do now is to wait for a patch.

Can still get 1.7 update file off website, if you have USB flash drive or media card slot on pc and media card also also can burn it via CD-R data disc that is if you want to go back only. Its an option/choice use wisely. http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Network/Updates

I hope they fix this with the next updateBabeBro

Next update?! this bug is way to major for Sony to wait

About the ports: They dont solve the problem, they're just the ports that your router should have opened to let your PS3 connect with your PC properly, though seeing as for you, and most people in this thread cant use the feature they're not all that importent right now...

And i have 1 more question; Any with this problem NOT using a Linksys router?

This Message is for anyone having network trouble with the new Playstation 3 1.80 update.

In order to use some of the new network features, the PS3 now requires more open ports. It seems on most routers upnp almost never works after installing the update, and you get a nat 3 rating. You can either go into your PS3 options and disable the Media Server connection, your PS3 should connect to the PSnetwork and Internet now, but you will not be able to use any of the new network features.  Or, if you would like to be able to use all the new network features, you can open all the old required ports(these worked before the update without using port forwarding, and having upnp enabled), and open all the new required ports on the port forwarding settings on your router. If you use port forwarding you must disable upnp in your PS3 settings.  all of these ports should be open: 80tcp , 443tcp , 5223tcp , 3478udp , 3479udp , 3658udp , 4658udp , 1900udp , 2869tcp , 10243 , 10280-10284udp .    everything should now work perfectly. hopefully sony releases a patch to fix upnp.  read this so you can actually get online to download it.

nothing can be done, it's hopeless. i spent hours trying every setting, opening ports, setting up dmz's, reinstalling and resetting up everything, calling technical support for my router, assigning static ip's, everything.  linksys wrt54g routers do not work.  sony may never solve this problem.  you can either turn off the media server feature, or buy a new router.

I did what you said however the internet connection still reads UPnP as unavailable  and when I scan the connection to the internet is dropped.  Thanks for the advice but I think I'll just wait till the next update or patch that should fix this as it seems to be a widespread problemÂ
