you don't need the cord connected to start your system...just push the ps button and your system should boot up

Doing what Twin said should pair them up. maybe your problem is not letting them charge up fully first before trying to pair them?

no when u turn on ur ps3 manually ur controllers will stay off...i turn on my ps3 from my controller...once they are paired u should be able to turn it on...try this if all else fails... turn on ur ps3, plug a controller into the system through the USB cord, wait for it to fully charge, unplug the controller, and turn off the system with the controller, then ur controller should automaticlly turn off as well, then hit ur PS button and see if ur ps3 turns on, if not...then i dont know whats wrong with it

Wow this isn't rocket science. Follow these exactly and don't go skipping steps. DON'T GET AHEAD OF YOURSELF! READ!

1. Controller>USB>PS3

2. Turn on PS3

3. Turn on Controller

4. The light should blink, then go solid.

5. You may now unplug the USB and the controller will be assigned to that PS3 PERMANTELY unless you assign it to a different PS3. You do not need to do this everytime to turn on the PS3. Once it is assigned, it is Done, THATS IT!

_____________________________________________________________________

Turning on the PS3 AFTER the controller is paired:

1. Press the PS button on the Controller, Your PS3 will beep and turn on. The controller will assign itself a slot (The 1 light should be solid if that is the only controller on).

OR

1. Turn on the PS3.

2. Turn on a Controller. The controller will assign a slot.

I hope this helps - this should be in the manual too. I didn't think it was that hard to figure out anyways. Well it didn't even take any figuring out on my part, I just knew when I got it... I dunno, maybe just me.

The only time you will need to plug in the controller again is to charge the controller. Plug the controller into the PS3 while it is on. The lights on the controller will flash as it is charging.
