hey, just got my PS3. After setting it up, I managed to set up a connection to my wireless internet. I did the update and then tried setting up

an account but it kept on saying connection time out, after this i restarted the PS3 and tried again but sadly it timed out again. I tested the connection and kept getting the common IP address failure, I have been browsing around and trying quite a few things but still nothing works. It says im connected to the router with 70%+ signal strength, but the IP address still isn't found whilst testing the connection.

My kit:

PS3 120GB Slim (wireless connection)

router:Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7

(more info on ithttp://www.o2user.co.uk/forum/o2-broadband-tutorial-section/671-o2-wireless-box-ii-guide.html)]

Thanks

Do you have wireless security on? Disable it and try again. My Linksys router refuses to work with my ps3 when wpa2 is turned on.

Also, instead of auto IP addressing (DHCP), try manually setting up a static IP. You stated that there was a common IP error, it could be caused by another computer on the network.

this is a HORRIBLE idea. ALWAYS have wireless security on. otherwise, someone can easily use a packet sniffer and steal some of your passwords.

haha yeah, its not a good idea turning off your security and I don't want to exactly keep tuning my ps3 and modem/router off everytime I wanna do something online? is there any other 'permanent' way of fixing this IP problem I tried that DMZ stuff, didn't work :( any other ideas?

Cheers

its possible that its giving your ps3 a duplicate ip address. try putting a higher static one in. assuming you're on the default 192.168.1.x network, set it to something like 192.168.1.13

one thing i noticed whilst going through the DMZ process is that on my router options page my PS3 (according to MAC address) didn't have the same IP as I had manually set on the PS3?

(i was referring to the dynamic address) once you put in a static address on the ps3 like i said earlier, try restarting the ps3. it may need to be restarted for the changes to take effect.

Had the same problem via ethernet connection... until I replaced my modem 8) Try turning off both your console and modem and then switching them back on. Modem > console. After doing so run the easy setup. If this still doesn't work try manually changing your MTU to 1492.

sorry got carried away with Uncharted 2 :D

Yeah so anyway without changing anything it managed to work... for a while

then a totally new error came up. After managing to sign up to PSN whilst updating Uncharted 2 (which failed) it logged me out, after playing a bit of Uncharted 2 singleplayer I went back onto the XMB and tested the connection, now having more options the IP address succeeded and the internet connection succeeded but now the Playstation Network bit fails? random much?

and one more thing how do i change my DNS to automatic when I have a static IP?

Thanks you've helped a lot

Instead of connecting the ethernet to your router, try a direct connection to your modem.

Also, try this for a wireless connection fix

most modems only have 1 port which would mean that nothing else would be able to be used, and he'd have to switch the connection every single time

Just trouble shooting. Considering we haven't heard anything for a while TC must be doing OK. Fingers crossed ;)

sorry guys was away for a bit, yeah so I tried the changing the DNS still nothing, the weird thing is that it works for a while the first time I start my ps3 then it goes downhill from there? I don't want the networking to only work for about 20 mins then stop, that's going to get annoying and its still not connecting to PSN. Just trouble shooting but is there any majormaintenance going on around now?

and another annoying thing is, is that the option html thingy for the O2 box isn't really user friendly, you have to dig around to get what you want which gets rather annoying :S

But thanks for the help so far :D

It sounds like one of your PC got the same IP address as your PS3. You should try to give every PC a static IP adress, so they don't have the same IP address.
