Hello everyone,

First I would like to say how much the Playstation 3 rocks: A lot, now that I got that out of the way I would like to address the conflict that I am facing. I would like to play online Playstation 2 games on my Playstation 3, now I asked this question on neoseeker.com and got nothing but I am confident that It will be answered here. Now I don't have the memory card adapter but I have online start-up disc v3.0 but everytime I put it in I get "An error occurred during the start operation. (80028F18)"  But I downloaded the System data from the Store, please someone answer me.

I don't think you can play PS2 games online with the PS3.  I could be wrong though so hopefully someone else will come in & confirm this.

What I need is the "Network Configuration File"

Since I never created one with my PS2 how can I get one now? On another topic here on GS it says I can d/l it from the Playstation store, the only thing I've seen is this thing for PS2 games and a hard drive or something.

The problem is you have never played online with your PS2. From past reads it appears you need to transfer a network settings file created on a PS2 mem card over to the PS3. I assume you have to use the PS2 memory adapter, though tere may be another way.

If you still have a PS2 just run through the network setup, save to a mem card, test the game you want to play on the PS3, and if all is well transfer the mem card files to the PS3 and fire up your PS2 game.

If someone who has actually done this procedur can confirm, please do, or offer an alternate solution. If it comes down to needing someone to test this I can search for one of those PS2 mem card adapters and run through the process myself. I haven't done this because I prefer to continue to use my PS2 for PS2 games, and I rarely play PS2 online games. I do have a couple sitting right here so let me know and I can run through the process.

Okay, I'll try my best to explain as I have fully set up a PS2 network. 1. Download the PS2 hardware thing from the PS Store. 2. Put in a PS2 game and when you select 'online' or 'multiplayer', it should bring you to a ps2 network setup menu. 3. From there setting up a network is identical to setting up a network in PS3 4. If you don't know how to set up a network in PS3, here are steps a. Click "New Connection" b. Scan for your router. After you find it set it up by entering your password 5. Test connection. If it still doesn't work, try to figure it out yourself, and if it still doesn't work, PM me 6. Save your network configuration into a virtual memory card for ps3 7. When you hit "online" in a game, it should ask you for a memory card slot 8. Choose whatever slot you you saved your configuration 9. Choose your network (whatever it's called, I call my network configuration "House Connection" 10. Play
