Does anyone know a way to get the PS3 to play video files that are larger than 5 GB? I've got several HD movies that are above that size and none of them work?

video files of that size such as MKV's arent even compatible with the ps3 directly. your only option apart from converting is to stream them from a decent computer, or buy a stand alone blu ray player/media player instead

If I remember right, it is because the PS3 uses FAT32 on its HDD, and that means you can't use any files bigger than 4gbs. Like it was said above, stream it from your computer to your PS3.

Compress it a little, and i have my Aliens 4 Blu Ray(12Gb) ripped and on my PS3 and it works perfectly, in fact i never even realised the PS3 had a file size limit and yes this was directly on my PS3 not streamed.

Edit: After about 3 seconds of googling i discovered only MP4 files are subject to this 4Gb limit, just convert the container to avi or mgp2 or something and you'll be fine.
