Turn everything off.

Plug in the controller through the USB.

Turn on the console and wait until XMB loads. Wait 5 seconds.

Make sure that the controller stopped blinking the 4 buttons.

Unplug the USB from the controller.

Enjoy.

maybe u have a bad controller.  the only thing you should have to do is hit the PS button that is in the middle of the controller after the system is on.  Then you should see all the lights flash on top of the controller, go out, and then the first light will stay lit.  That lets you know that it is assigned to the first port.  That's all there is to it.  Do you get any lights?

while they are blinking, press the PS button one more time.  That should assign it to port 1?  Does anything happen if you press the PS button while they are blinking?

After reading all the posts... TC, sounds like you have a defective controller. Call Sony for a replacement or get a replacement from where ever you brought it from.
