I have an 80 Gig MGS4 PS3 but am now looking for another hard drive because I have no space left.

How is this one?

Seagate 500G

I'm new to this so I don't want to lose all my photos, music, videos, and game saves.

Thanks.

No point of getting an hybrid drive, you will see barely differences in loading times for the increased price.

It looks like it would work, but this is the one I used:

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Momentus-2-5-Inch-Internal-Notebook/dp/B00168BSEW

I had originally used a different Seagate and for some reason my PS3 wouldn't recognize it. I bought this one and it has been working fine, for the most part. Twice on boot up it has not been recognized and then it's fine when rebooted. Replacing a hard drive is risky, because Sony doesn't give recommendations and it seems like some HDDs work and others don't. It's a finicky process, so you don't really know which one will work unless you try it. Good luck.

Well I vote go for your ssd :) If you can get a cheaper ssd then do that, but ssd ftw :)

Edit: As for all of your photos and what not just back it all up

I got a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB drive and it's been working perfectly for about 2 years now.

To keep all of your photos, videos, saves, etc. Just copy them to a USB stick. If you're a PS+ member, you can move your game saves to the cloud also. I would stick with the standard laptop drive (2.5" HDD) at 5400 rpm cause that's what Sony puts in them. I also don't think a SSD is going to make that much difference, especially for the price.

Almost all 2.5 inch HDD should do fine. I swapped HDDs a little while back and used a $60 250GB HDD and it's been working just fine. If you don't want to go through backing up all your data on an external hard drive, just use a USB flash drive to store all game saves, photos, music. Unfortunately, you probably have some copy protected game saves, so you might have to buy a few months of PS+ if you want to take this route and use it's Online Storage function to store all game saves, including those that are copy protected.

I just want the best I can get. 500GB is the highest PS3 accepts right? So is my link good or if there is another better one just give me a link.

I upgraded my HDD with a 640GB and it works perfectly fine. I would keep with a 5400RPM because the the ps3 is built with its power output to match this speed any faster can cause the system to overheat and crash your console or corrupt date, plus some comparisons that i have seen when i was looking to upgrade they tested different speeds HDD like the 7200RPM or the solid state harddrive and they are barley quick or more or less wouldnt even notice it so save abit of cash and get what ever size you want just make sure its a 5400RPM 2.5 inch sata drive.

I was going to upgrade my fat 40gig. Sadly Sony's update of death killed my blu-ray drive, no blu-ray discs would play and sony denied all the error codes my PS3 had on it. Now i have a 360gig plus slim. It didnt cost much, but i have no idea how im going to sell the fat PS3 in any of the game stores with out it being checked :/

It's the same price as the Momentus 500G 7200RPM I just bought. Should I just get the hybrid instead for the same price?

You should be able go bigger than 500GB. A friend of mine has a 750GB in his PS3.
