I'm not to good with HDTVs and all this upscaling stuff.  I have a 720p Sanyo 32 inch that doesn't support 1080i or p.  I was wondering if I am able to watch blue ray movies in hi def now that this 1.80 patch is out.  I'm not sure what I should set my settings to for the best results.  Here is a my TV http://us.sanyo.com/entertainment/televisions/lcd/index.cfm?productID=1485

Should I set the DVD Upscaler option to "Double Screen", "Normal", "Full Screen" or "Off" for the best results.  Any other options I should change please let me know.  Thanks much.

well you already have hi def at 720p which is better than 1080i since p is for progressive but you can pick full screen if you like and your tv is not a true widescreen, what 1.8 did was take regular dvds to hi def or atleast suppose to so hope that kind of answers he question a little

i totally forgot about that 1080 stuff since my tv has 1080, but i think he upscaling if it will work can only be done with and hdmi cable anyway so if you have a hdmi port change your setting on the upscaler and check it out if not then no it wont work mybad

no. it's not. 720p on a 720p set offers a superior picture to 1080i on a 1080i set. and it's about time the ps3 correctly scaled blu-ray content, now my dad will probably buy one :P

Maybe I should have worded my question differently.  What do the different settings under DVD Upscaler do? Like whats the difference between "Double Screen", "Full Screen", "Normal" and "Off"?  Is there one that is meant for 720p?

Those are the upscaling options for normal DVD's. You should just pop your BD in and be able to watch it. assuming you are correctly hooked up with the HDMI cable.

Best thing to do is start off at full and if you dont like it change it to something else. Also try out the RGB Full range option, if its too dark change it back. Only your eyes can decide if its good or not.

Full option for DVD doesn't change much. Double scaling makes the picture a lot more sharper than before so that's my preference. Most TV's should support RGB Full, just watch the uncharted trailer with limited and full. If with FUll on, it looks greener and more lush, then keep it on because it makes everything look a lot nicer in terms of colors and contrast. No longer will PS3 games be "more brighter" than 360 games with this feature
