That happened to my 60GB. It's hardware failure and you'll have to call Sony. Sorry :(

Call Sony? Wouldn't it be easier to sell that old broken ps3 and buy a new one? Alot of people buy broken ps3 for parts. I'm sure sony would charge an arm and a leg just to repair it, unless your still under warranty.

I dunno how much you could get for parts (not much I would think). So it's either pay $170 for a refurb or $300 for the slim. Plus, if it's an older PS3 he would lose PS2 BC if he got a slim.

Not a bad idea. It might be cheaper to find someone that repairs PS3. I know I live in NY and I see in the papers all the time people advertising PS3/xbox/ipod etc repairs.

Try this site

http://www.gophermods.com/

I heard is really good and is cheaper than Sony. There's many opitions, so you have to see what your PS3 really needs.

I've owned all models and everyone I know (5 people) have had no probs at all with their PS3s. I come on here and read people having failures and it's weird to me.

I was about to say that. He would lose some good features if he did get rid of it... that's if he does own a model with BC. Getting a slim also means having just 2 USB ports.
