When I turn the main power switch off from the back of the console (as I always do) I will hear this wierd high pitched ringing/screeching type of noise. It is a hard noise to explain, but I have definatley heard it before on stuff like TV screens and computers. It is actually a very quiet noise, but when you put your ear close to the machine you can hear a very high pitched squeling type of sound. It lasts about 20 seconds then goes away. Do you think its because I turn the main power switch off and it just takes time to turn the electricity off so it makes that noise or something? (It ONLY happens when I flick the switch off at the back)

do you turn the power off on the front before turning it off completely... it could be any number of things because the front power off turns off things like the HDD and such

You mean the power switch at the back?

I always put it in stand by mode before I turn the main power switch off, which is what the manual tells me to do. I just want to know why it makes a wierd kind of high pitched buzzing sound all the time for about 20 seconds after turn off. Its kind of like an ear piercing screech sound.

I hear this sound on other electronic items also.

Not really. It is an extremley hard noise to explaining lol.

You know when somebody slaps you in the ear or yells in your ear really loud and you get that ringing sound going through your ears? Its kind of like that, but a little bit more quiet. It lasts 20 seconds then goes away.

I have called Sony, they have no idea what I am talking about because I cannot describe the sound to them lol.

But it only happens when I turn the power switch off. Maybe its just the electricity disconnecting from the console to the power supply so it makes a ringing sound for a while?

My console is in 100% working condition and I have not had a problem with it yet (owned it for 5 days only though lol)

make sure ur power cord is plugged correctly(not loose or anythin) and try not to trun it off from the back for a day at least, and following day go back to it and turn it off from the back and see if u get that noise still. i have launch 60gb and a 40gb just recently, and i been turning both off form the back, after i shut it DOWN MANUALLY, and i havent heard that noise or encountered any problems, but maybe its an electric issue maybe not. but try not to turn it off from the back for day and see if the problem happens again

Could you please try turning it off from the back, and put your ear close to the HDD drive and tell me if you hear anything?

I had a Sony HDD Walkman that used to do it, the NW-HD5.. does it sound like the noise when you use a camera, and it whistles a bit afterwards..? I asked my uncle who's an electrician and he said it's nothing to worry about.. maybe its a similiar thing with thge PS3.

Thanks for trying Joker ^^^^^^^^^ Much appreciated :)

Yeah it does kind of make a whistling noise. As I said before I have heard this noise on other electronics as well.

ive had this same problem as well. i played through the whole game without this problem, and now on my 2nd playthrough its been happening. from what ive read, exit the game COMPLETELY, and then go back in and it should return to normal
