We've got a few more details on the upcoming release of Home for you today. They aren't the biggest announcements, but they're things that you're absolutely better off knowing. Some of them are disappointing, some of them are ambitious, but all of them deserve mentioning in a fancy bulleted list.

  • Home is currently capped at 60 people per room, for frame-rate issue reasons. If we can put in our two cents, we recommend a Phantasy Star Universe approach for the rooms -- players, you know what we mean.
  • Travel between zones is more straightforward than originally planned. You can run as well as walk, or just use the magical PSP interface to warp wherever you want.
  • Many organizations desire Home to completely replace the XMB. That is, when you boot up your PS3, you start off in your room in Home.
  • Work on Home will continue well into next year, so the product we get in October is in no way the final version of the program.

These are all ambitious claims and we're looking forward to seeing what even the incomplete build will be able to do. Then we can gauge how well the other points will work out. How do you all feel about Home perhaps someday replacing the XMB altogether? Would you prefer the option, at least, to start up into Home upon turning the PS3 on?

Why can't there be an option for both? Kind of likea start-up program. You can choose whether you want HOME to start up right away or whether you want to use XMB... best of bothworlds.

Cross media bar, I know what you're thinking, using an X for cross is just as annoying as when people say Xmas

I just wanna mess around with Home asap. Just seams like so much customization that is amazing, I just can't help but feel we won't get to be all using home in October, something tells me it is going to be pushed back for some reason and be like o wait its January release now. None the less I am definitely looking forward to home and the 60 players a room doesn't really worry me that much.

Going along with that idea I think it would nice if the communication was always open, however, the volume of the people would vary based on how far away you are from that person. You want to talk to just one person you can walk up to them...Want to talk to a group then you circle around and talk as a group....

I don't think i like the idea of losing my XMB. I like it because it matches the PSP. I wouldn't mind the option to choose though.

It's not for sure, and Phil Harrison also said when asked in an interview:

"It would be hard to tell how many people fluently use Home instead of the XMB"

I doubt they get rid of XMB...they just did a huge upgrade to allow us to put our own wallpaper, then they are just going to ditch the concept all together?

It will either be an option to automatically start in home or home will be an option off the XMB...I doubt they get rid of XMB all together.

Yea, they are definately not taking out the XMB simply because people without a network connection could not possibly go into Home.

personally I want it to load to Home. I don't want to loose the XMB... if I need it I should be able to just press the PS button and there it is on top of Home.

I'd like the option to start up from it or not tho. In case if I get tired of it.

It's always been somewhere in the area of 60 people per server....that just makes sense.

As far as it replacing the XMB, it might be what some want but an option for both would be nicer.

I certainly don't want to have to rely on Home instead of the XMB. I mean, my Dad has a PS3 for Blu Ray... if he has to walk around with some goofy avatar to do something simple like watch a movie, I know he is going to feel really alienated.

Anyone know what they were talking about with this comment? I've never played Phantasy Star Universe before.

yes that would be a great idea...so then if you and your friends want to meet up you can just say go to this server everytime

also for clans they could have certain servers they would go to to meet up
