There are seriously no retail games that I'm interested for the PSP, so since my PSP and few games that I have for it don't go to waste, I guess to make the best use of it would be to start using the PSN and download old PS1 games that I never had.

Are they just as playable as when they were first released? Does the smaller screen and controls affect the gameplay?

i have only downloaded Crash Bandicoot for the psp. And I would say it is a GREAT translation. the game originally didnt require an analog stick, so the controls are identical to the ps1 versionand I think it looks good on the psp screen. be warned though, the game is frustrating due to the level of difficulty. but it does have a save feature to your memory stick (as a virtual memory card).

No problem at all except for the Psycho Mantis fight on MGS. You had to die three times and use the alternate method (i.e break the statues).

I have the PS1 classics Spyro: Year Of The Dragon, and Final Fantasy VII on my PSP. The Spyro one plays just great, it's just as fun and easy to play as it is on the PS consoles. FFVII plays great as well. Also, the small screen is not a problem at all.

Wait you can change controller ports can't you? By pressing the home button while playing the game.

There on the PSN store. At least the American one, anyway.

Get FFVII on PSN. Do you know how many DS owners would crap on their chrono trigger just to play FFVII on their handhelds? This was THE game that brought RPG to the mainstream. It was an amazing game for its time and still is a very good game that holds up very well. The graphics are atrocious by today's standards, but the story, characters, music, production values and the game's pure quality make up for it and then some. The few gripes I have are the awkward controls and some graphical glitches. Also get Resident evil and Metal gear Solid. Both great games. I think the first resident evil captures the survival horror essence better than any other game in the franchise.

I have 5 PS1 PSN games and they look and play fine on the PSP. Sorry, I never had a PS1 so I can't compare them to the original experience, but my opinion is that a lot of old games are just as fun or interesting as many newer ones. The only "problem" is that you have to decide whether or not to display them in the original aspect ratio.

I've downloaded Spyro 2, Jumping Flash!, and FFVII onto my MemStick. I play Jumping Flash! on the Widescreen setting because I want to feel like I'm high in the sky while I'm jumping all over. Spyro 2 plays just fine and looks great in the Original or Normal screen settings, and I absolutely can't wait to jump back into FF7 (still playing through Crisis Core for the first time). I have yet to decide which Screen Mode I'm going to go with. Probably widescreen.

they work fine. the screen size can be a bit off putting at first but it's no big deal.

i'm with you on the retail games thing, not a lot to choose from - especially recently, although Monster Hunter is good for those so inclined.
