Basically, I'm considering buying this and I've heard it has noticeable performance issues on the PS3.

How bad are these issues, which parts of the orange box do they affect,

And should these issues stop me from buying this at half price?

Thanks heaps, Joelgargan.

I played Portal and I didn't notice anything. Do you mean should you buy it for a different system? If PS3 is your only system, yes, go for it, it's amazing. The game is seriously cool.

Definitely buy the game. There's only a few framerate drops in Episode 1, i think. Other than that, the game runs well enough for you to play and enjoy a lot.

The PC version is the best version. There are a few framerate and loading problems but nothing huge.I played the orange box on the PS3 and loved it.The biggest setback is Team fortress 2.The game got none of the updates and will never get any of them.People still play the game online.....Just not a whole lot.

Most reviews on the PS3 version are over the top. I've played it and only had one framerate problem in Episode 2. I'll admit loading took longer than expected but its nothing game breaking.

The only difference i really noticed was the longer loading. The game is dated in general but if you want it, dont let the reviews throw you off.

Aside from the game being one of my all time favorites and a must-buy in my opinion, the only performance issues are the occasional lag and server issues with Team Fortress2, and there's like 1 part in all of Half-life 2 where the game lags for a little bit. The game runs great for the most part and the only people who really complain about it are people who generally complain about anything anyways.

The perfomance issues in the PS3 version really have been blown way out of proportion. If the PS3 version is your only option (as it was for me) then definitely go for it. The game runs perfectly fine most of the time. Nobody should really miss out on the 5 amazing games collected here.

Yeah I think alot of people over blow stuff out of proportion for the PS3. Like Fallout 3, everyone said that it ran like crap, and I found nothing wrong with it, just like Orange Box.

The game is pretty sweet, it's kind of a dystopia adventure game like 1984 if you've ever read that.

its really not that bad at all, i barely experienced any framerate issues, as much as any other game. The only bad thing is the loading times, expecially in portal if you get through the levels quick - still its not a major problem and its not excessive. Easily worth the money you can get it for now.

5 for $15 is bad if: you're at Arbys, you're buyingrolls of toilet paper or gallons of gas, or it's the rate on a phone card.

5 for $15 is good if: you're at a strip club, it's the pitcher cost during happy hour, or it's a solid collection of video games.

Currently playing Portal, Half Life 2 & Team Fortress 2.

Portal is brilliant in it's uniqueness. Minor load times, no frame issues. Playing to long makes my brain hurt.

Half Life 2 isa fun, story driven, fps. Presently stuck in the 2nd section of Sandtraps (can't seem to find enough surface to air rockets to take down 2nd gunship). Medium load times (less than 2 1/2min frominitiation of game on PS3 menu to saved game loaded & playing). Haven't noticed any frame issues.

Team Fortress 2 is fun & there are always plenty of people playing. Lack of new updates kinda sucks, but that doesn't make it less fun- just not more fun.

The loading times are quite long, but also quite often for me the sound randomly goes all crackly and irritating, in which case I have to quit the game I'm playing & reload, which of course means yet more loading. I don't think I've read any other complaints about the sound though, so maybe it's just my stuff. HL2 has frozen on me a couple of times during loading as well, which means getting up & resetting the console. Those are all the negatives I've had so far, but I haven't touched Episode 1 or 2 yet, or finished HL2. The Orange Box is easily the most problematic of all my PS3 games, but don't get me wrong, for the most part it performs well, it's definitely worth getting (as I don't have a gaming PC or X360) & I'm glad I got it.
