i have encountered this a lot of times when i buy games parents buy their kids mature games so whenever i play online most of the people i encountered is kids...i want to know why parents let their kids play mature games? i think it makes their kids violent... i'm a parents as well but i never let my kids watch me play mature games... i think parents should be more responsible of buying games... now that Modern Warfare 2 is coming out and there's some of the scene in the game is sensitive and its rated MATURE... i hope parents should realize this kind of games can be portrayed by their own kids.....

what do you thinks people

i think that its up to the parent. there is a personal line for me, example my 10 year old would not be playing Modern Warfare 2. but where my line stops, maybe someone else is just getting started. the ESRB is simply a guideline, and if the parents want to spawn another jack tompson with letting there child play mature games, we can't do anything but deal

Its a futile endeavor. Parent heads are thicker than concrete and even if parents don't buy the kids the games they want they resort to other methods. So the root of problem I think is with the kids. Most of the love of violence of course stems from the media and how it portrays it in a positive light. There is no way you can change how the media works so the only way is to teach kids just how backwards the whole world has become.

Why the hell would you want to tell a parent what to buy for their child. It's THEIR child. If you hate playing online with children then play with some of your friends or don't go online.

its all on their parenting style. should they buy it for young kids? in my opinion, definitely not. but some parents have the opinion that if you expose them to it early, it'll be better in the long run. and there are other parents that just dont care so they buy the game so the kid will be quiet about it.

Does it matter, most parents just don't know how violent a game is, they just buy it because the kid asked for it. I don't know many parents who actually research a game before they buy it. The only reason these online shooting games are bad in my opioion, is because those 20+ years old can't stop talking about drugs, cussing, and other stuff you wouldn't want a 12 year old kid listening to.

I could honestly care less about this. When I was younger, my parents would let me play M-rated games. You just gotta be mature about it though.

Educate your children during their growing up stages, which means spend time with them and explain them the values and principles of life.

There is nothing wrong with young people buying mature games as long as those folks understand what is good and bad. Lets be honest, kids play mature games, there are many parents that buy those games for their children, or their family members or even friends.

When my 11 year old cousin can act properly with his Mic (without yelling, screaming and trowing f-bombs every 10 seconds) then not all is lost, unfortunately - that's minority of much larger cases that are proving me wrong.

That takes parenting. ;)

I'm a parent and my kid is only about a year and a half. I have played games my whole entire life, since the beginging of consoles, and grew up watching any movie I wanted regardless of rating. I have decided I would rather my kid be subjected to quality entertainment, than worry about a subjective rating put in place by corrupt MPAA or politicians or whoever it is that rate videgames. I'd much rather talk to my kid and be open about these things because I think that is MUCh better than subjecting him to the idiotic empty garbage that is marketed to kids these days.

However, having said that, he is only a baby still. I don't want to play any games in front of my kid that might scare him (given his age). So while shooting dudes in Uncharted is okay, I think,I don't think he should see me playing Dead Space or Resident Evil or Silent Hill or something like that. I'd feel bad if he was having nightmares because of some graphic images I let him see.

Yup, this. I would rather let a kid play a mature game than subject them to the godawful Disney Corporation. Anyway I was playing GTA 3 when I was like 8, and I turned out fine(I think)

Its not about the age its about the maturity, and most parents are aware of video games they know it will not alter their kid's personality or emotions and turning them violent only the mainstream media trys to conflict with it. If there 13 or lower then maybe try to be cautious but people who are 14 and up i think are mature enough, millions of kids play mature videogames all the time and does it change anything? do alot try to kill or be violent? no thats why its reported in the news if its uncommon then its reported. You can't prevent it and to be honest it hasn't changed the society for the worse so let them.

The parents mess up their kids more then video games do... Mature games are like R - Rated Movies, Alcohol, Drugs, or Cigarettes... I don't have kids / teens but if I do one day, I will let them do what they want, as long as it's under my watch, because they're going to do what they want to do anyway if it's with me or their friends...

I think its fine the way it is now. They have the rating guidelines for parents to make their own personal choices and thats the way it should be. I've played violent video games since I was little and my parents are amazing and their very proud of me, it never affected me negatively. I was just playing a video game, something not real, and having fun, it's the same as an action movie or what not. I can't believe some people are trying to invade other peoples personal lives and choices and change it to what they want. Relativism is annoying for me, just because you think somethings moral or immoral doesn't make you right nor is it "thats your opinion" because then everyone is right. It's an amoral thing, its entertainment, all these cases you hear of M rated games corrupting the youth is nonsense and bs, just like Jack Thompson. Anytime someone does something wrong they blame the video games and focus on that, do they tell people that they are alcoholics, that they suffer from abuse, that they have mental health problems, that they just lost their job and their wife divorced him, goes on forever.

Now this is just my opinion but it all depends on the parent and the kids surrounding maturity level etc like for example my young one shell be turning 4 really soon and she would watch her disney and all that garbage but would sit down and play a game like GTA san andreas for example just running ppl over and shooting up ppl or play a gorey game like MK or something or watch family guy yet she doesn't swear out of her gums or act out of place because she knows and is told its just ENTERTAINMENT heck even when i was young i watched whatever the hell i wanted was bought any game i wanted etc because i still kept it cool and not acted out from the content i watched just like how my young one is its just temp fun. i just think its pure stupidity when parents ban stuff like family guy from being watched by their kids and just letting them be subjected to watered down content thinking they will be ok yeah sure from the time being i suppose but it will show up eventually as they grow to be teens then youll have a problem. parents dont need to be lazy about it just school ya kiddies that its just entertainment ffs.

I think it's up to the parents on how to raise their child. As long as they don't abuse, or neglect them it's probably fine.

Mostly I think parents need to actually pay attention to their kids, and actually treat them w/ more respect. It kinda makes me sick that everytime I go out I see a kid trying to tell his parents something, and the kid is basically ignored, or talked down to. No wonder teens don't talk to their parents, it's learned behavior.

I think it's a matter of educating the parents and the children. When I shop at Gamestop, I sometimes see parents buying M rated games for their kids (kids are usually like 10 or so) and the sales guys are like "this game is rated M. It has very graphic violence...." I used to work at Blockbuster video and I'd get CLUELESS parents renting extremely violent games for their kids. One parent thought the "M" meant "marvelous". But most of the time, parents just buy the mature games just shut the kid up.

Everyone learns from what is around them. If you are with a bunch of friends that cuss you WILL eventually start cussing. No matter what is around you it affects you. However, for someone well along in years that comits a crime it rarely is the case that they saw it done in a videogame and chose to reenact it. For older people its takes a large unbalanced exposure of violence to cause them to act. Why are riots so dangerous? With so many people massed together everyone gets caught up in the moment. Now does every single person in the riot have a history of violent acts? Most likely not.

It is the parents choice. Not all kids are going to play GTA4 and go nuts and not all kids are going to get on the mic and talk crap. If anything we need to find a way to stop all of the idiot trash talkers who have no sense at all from buying these games. I've run into my fair share of both annoying kids and annoying adults and believe me the adults take the cake when they start acting like they have little to no sense. Even if we some how managed to wipe the online universe clean of little kids online what are we left with after that, a bunch of adults who act even worst. I believe it is just bad people online in general. Kids and adults.

It'ssillyfor someoneto think that there is a way to control what parents expose their children to. With that said, I was raised by pretty uninvolved parents that let me have whatever game/movie I ever wanted. It was cool at the time, but I really didn't have much of a true "childhood" because I was exposed to so much. I have a 6 yr old now myself, and I am very involved with everything he is into because of the lack of involvement my parents had in my life and how I think I was affected.

I don't like the parents that let their children have whatever they please, because those same kids go to school with my kids and they then influence my kids with what they've been exposed to. I'm not stupid enough to think that the problem can be fixed, all you can do is postively influence your children, whether that is by staying as involved with their lives as possible or just screening the games/movies that you allow them to watch. Take care of the things that are within your power to control and deal with what you can't appropriately.

It's not up to ANY of us to prevent it. People need to quit being lazy dumb idiots and start doing their job as being parents for a change. This "nanny state" way of society stinks to high hell and each of us has a responsibility. Especially to our own family and our own lives. People need to grow up, smarten up and grow a freakn' brain for a change. Conformity is a bad thing. Remember that, people!

It depends.I really think that parents should know their kids much better. Most parents either buy any game for their kids, or look at the age rating and go by that. The age rating actually has nothing to do with it for kids that are 13 and older. If a child is mentally mature enough, doesn't drop f-bombs all the time, and is an overall well-behaved child, then I don't see anything wrong with buying that kid a M-Rated video game. They are smart and mature enough to know its just a game, and won't get affected. However, if the child is not mentally stable or mature, then they do not deserve the M-Rated game

Its as simple as that. all we need is just for parents to actually get to know their kids.

i have encountered this a lot of times when i buy games parents buy their kids mature games so whenever i play online most of the people i encountered is kids...i want to know why parents let their kids play mature games? i think it makes their kids violent... i'm a parents as well but i never let my kids watch me play mature games... i think parents should be more responsible of buying games... now that Modern Warfare 2 is coming out and there's some of the scene in the game is sensitive and its rated MATURE... i hope parents should realize this kind of games can be portrayed by their own kids.....

what do you thinks people

sweetpinoy2k1

You know why they do it? because they know their kids wont go crazy and wont pick up guns or knifes and commit genocides because they played M rated games (unless if the children has psycological disorder, if thats the case, parents should keep him away from videogames) i played RE since I was 4 years old and M rated game since I was like 3 and Im quite a peacefull person

The only thing that parents should not allow their childrens to do is to watch PORNOGRAPHY, but as for gaming goes, it doesn't have anything wrong.

I mean, you just said that we shouldn't allow children to play MW2...dude...is a war game...with military, terrorist and guns, why to restrict them from playing the game? im pretty damm sure they wont go out to buy an AK47 after they play for an hour.

I mean...games like COD...why to tell children to stay away from them? It would be ok If it had bewbs, but it doens't, so no problem!

Come on, how silly is that? Would a NBA coach say : "Hey, you can't stop LeBron from scoring. So just don't play D and let him score as much as he wants." Great strategy.

We shouldn't stop other parents from doing things that are none of our business. I played Doom constantly, laughed at Freddy Crougar and Jason movies etc and I'm just fine thanks. I'm actually more worried about you (OP) because it seems like you've been brain washed by the "news" media and are very susceptible to outside influence without bothering to question motives or looking at the truth from all angles.

Of course it's probably entirely true that SOME kids are simply not mature enough (at any age) to handle any mature form of media because there is most likely something developmentally wrong with them, or their parents are lousy, or whatever the cause of it may be...but it's not the video games themselves.

If anything video games are more like a spark for someone that was already looking to start a fire.

Kids only get influenced by games if there really immature or retarded or something. I know a kid in my grade thatused to playgrand theft auto when he was in grade 2 or 3 and he's completely normal now. And I've noticed kids with overprotective parents are usually immature

They can't "attack" movies. That's why.

How come. Its the exact same as like *attacking* the age for playing m rated games.

Because the folks that make the movies are either them, their friends or the ones that sign their paychecks. If a form of entertainment is favoured by a ruling class. Guess what? Nobody's speaking against it. If they even try, they'll get no where. Video Games are the new "Rock and Roll".

I played Mortal Kombat when I was five years old and nothing bad happens now. Its the parents choice whether to let them play a violent game and also the parent needs to educate their kids that videogames aren't real.

We don't need to prevent smart non-violent kids with good parents from getting mature games since they will not become violent. Also, stupid violent kids are the same as their parents most of the time, and their parents are most likely too stupid to see that these games can help making those kids even more violent. So there's nothing we can do about it...

*thinks deeply, so cody doesn't get modded for flaming*

Different parents raise their children differently. I personally have never encoutered a hardcore gamer who is violent by any means. I think that if you're 13, you're plenty old to be playing Mature games. I even play games like CoD4 and UT3 with my 8 year old cousin. I don't notice that it has any sort of effect on him.

But I do think that kids under the age of 11 or 12 shouldn't be allowed to play games online.

Well, I say it depends on the kid imo.

In general, yes, most underaged should not be playing games which are not suitable for them. However, in my personnel experience, I play a few 18+ games and yes, I'm 'underaged' at 16.

That's the thing, my parents trust me and I trust them. Unfortunately, that's no the general case nowadays is it?
