How come PSOne classics in the PSN store do not have trophies?

I would definitely buy a few classics and replay them to get all the trophies. Castlevania Symphony of the Night for example.. has achievements on the 360, but nothing on PS3. Anyone else think that Sony should patch all (most) of the psone classics so that they have unlockable trophies?

ps, inb4 "who cares about trophies, play the games to enjoy them blah blah" I find it much more motivating to play games if I have some "tangible" evidence that I have beaten it and dedicated my time to unlocking as much as I can.

Too much effort and I'm guessing licensing issues.

Edit- No, I don't care I don't need trophies to play good games.

Why would you need them to play your favorite PS1 classics?

That would be pretty cool, probably too much work to make it compatible with it though

Because the PS1 Classics are little more than ISO dumps and Sony and the original devs are either incapable of or simply too lazy to add trophies. I'd imagine most PS1 classics that aren't Final Fantasy sell terribly anyway.

They're not even ports, they literally are digital versions of what was on PS1 discs all those years ago. If they were running on PS3 hardware the same as many PSN downloadable games, then they could consider trophy support (and they would be ports), but they're PS1 games running on an official PS1 emulator. That's why save files from old PS1 memory cards will work just the same on PSN versions of the game - because they're exactly the same.

That's just dumb, no offense. No excuse whatsoever for the above-mentioned Symphony of the Night to have achievements on 360 and NOTHING on PS3.

The above-mentioned Symphony of the Night was ported at some non-trivial cost to the 360. PS1 Classics simply go through QA verification to make sure that they work in the original form. These are the ORIGINAL GAMES running emulated.

It would be more work and their price would go up. I don't mind that PS1 games don't have trophies. If PS2 games were to come out on PSN, it'd be a different story.

I might actually play the crappy PS1 games I get from PS+ for like 15 minutes if they had trophies. But since they'll never get any I won't bother playing most of them.

No one realising that integrating trophies is quite a work?

Well, I'm not exactly knowledgable about programming, but I think trophies need a lot of programming. They are like ingame events that are triggered by certain conditions. Those triggers must be set and depending on the trophy that might be quite complicated. Also the game must be made compatible with the PS3 system. At the moment the classics are simply digital copies without any changes that are emulated. To be able to synchronize the trophies into the list on the XMB I think the game must be reprogrammed to be compatible with the system.

As I said I'm not an expert but I believe that integrating trophies into an old game is almost like developing a complete remake (except for the textures and artworks). Seems a bit too much for a small item that mainly older gamers and hardcore fans would buy.

Seriously, you're not gonna buy those awesome classics because of lack of trophy support? Really?

LOL @ "Tangible evidence". Sounds like one of the abritration meetings I had to attend. Seriously, if you want to play some of the PSOne classics, then do so. Play for fun, not the trophies.
