How come the PSP rarely gets good racing games?

I played the PS3 versions of Dirt 2 and NFS Shift and it was great. But the PSP versions are so arcade-ish, boring, and are watered down versions of their PS3 counterparts. Also, there's that new GT game for PSP. No career? No car tuning? Fail.

Wipeout Pure and Wipeout Pulse. It doesn't get any better than that. And both work perfectly fine on the PSP, are rich with content, superb graphics and gameplay, etc.

or Midnight Club : LA Remix. Long loading times is the ONLY letdown. But this makes up for the superb and smooth graphics.

What about the Ridge Racer games? Even now they set the standard for graphics and gameplay for a PSP racer!

I played both of those games already. They're both fun but they get boring after a while..

I just got home with my brand new copy of Motorstorm Arctic Edge. Gonna go for a shower then get my Motorstorm on. It looks like it's going to be really good. I love the PS3 Motorstorm games so I know I'll like Arctic Edge.

I have two Burnout games, Flatout Headon, Twisted Metal Headon, and two Wipeout games. There are many more PSP racing games too (even more than the DS). There definately is no shortage of great racing games for the PSP. Just avoid the Need for Speed games. There's two more great racers coming out within the next two weeks. Some people already have Motorstorm.

I think Burnout Legends is Great for PSP Car Racing Game. It has nice events and challenges, loading time is also fine.

EA Sports "NASCAR" (2006) is probably my favorite version of the game (including console itterations). "WipeOut Pure" is awesome and when I finally get all golds in that, I have "WipeOut Pulse" to purchase... what are you talking about? There are plenty of good racing games.

There are some good ones. Sega Rally Revo, Ridge Racer, and the Wipeout games are great! Also, PSP is getting Motorstorm and love it or hate it, GT is coming.

What? Racing games are the best genre that has been translated to the PSP. Burnout, Ridge Racer & Wipeout make up the most polished for the platform. I have also enjoyed the 1st NFS for the PSP.

It's really good. I recommend it to racing fans. It's fast but not that fast you can't see corners coming, it controls well, the new vehicles are good and each vehicle has it's own feel, the tracks are quite big with multiple routes, online MP is easy to get into and lag free. Online is really good on it actually. I was doing quite well in my first race, thought I might win it, but then I was overtaken and the guy in front of me started an avalanche that came down the side of the mountain and took me out. When I recovered I was in last place. It was unexpected and very cool. My one complaint about it so far is it sometimes doesn't feel 'Arctic' enough. A lot of the tracks have snow covered mountains beside them but you're driving on a brown track. I wanted snow covered tracks with snow being kicked up behind the vehicles in front of you. It's nothing too major but the Arctic setting could've been used more effectively IMO. The intro video looks amazing on the PSP's screen, there's plenty to unlock and it has a vehicle customisation section similar to Pure's where you can change your vehicles body parts. Yeah, I'd say it's worth getting.

Maybe I missed it but I can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned Race Driver 2006 by far its the most amazing and complete racing game on the PSP...graphics are almost as good as their xbox/ps2 counterparts and it can have up to 21 cars on track, plus theres a variety of racing types from rallycross to indy to stock cars to trucks to f1.Yeah its a port of the 2004 game Toca 2 but it has every single feature of that game except online play which was a strong point in the xbox version but still its an amazing game.Other than Race Driver theres Nascar 06 but unfortunately that game feels very outdated since the cars and drivers have changed so much. Also keep your eye out for Formula 1 2009 coming out on November.

Agreed. "Race Driver 2006" is GREAT, but a litle hard to find so that's why I didn't list it. And "NASCAR" is still a way-valid game, no driver list or COT ("Car of Tomorrow" body styles) can take away from it in terms of quality. Would I like those things? HEEEEEEELLLLL YEEEAHHH, as they say in the Carolinas & Virginias... but is it still 100% racing goodness? See previous exlpusion for the answer...

:)
