I just finished the game last night. I liked it very much. I think it should lose some points for so unashamedly copying Uncharted, but nonetheless it has top notch production values. Also, if you are going to borrow elements from another series at least they picked one of the best this gen and did it right.

Pro's -

Cool story detailing the origins of Lara Croft.

Great graphics.

Great platforming.

Loved the bow & arrows.

Con's -

Uncharted clone.

Puzzles were a joke. Very elementary.

So much more linear than I thought it would be. Maybe I am just spoiled after Far Cry 3.

IMO, little replay value. I won't be going back for my 2nd playthrough anytime soon.

I would give it an 8.0.

Your thoughts Gspotters?

What? Please, explain. Tomb Raider is quite different from Uncharted in a lot of ways. The things they share in common, they share in common with a lot of other games. Besides, Tomb Raider did platforming and puzzle solving like in old ruins well before Uncharted ever did.

Also, the path you take to get to your objective is fairly linear, but there is a ton of room in each area for exploring, and a number of things hidden throughout. I spent at least a few hours searching the map for trinkets and to complete challenges.

I enjoyed the hell out of the game. I give it a 9.5.  My only complaint were the QTE misfires I kept encountering.

I think they could have sold the story more if they actually focused on stealth as a major game mechanic than action. Cause in my mind, a naive girl on her first adventure + Bow= Stealth and it makes sense for the type of story they were trying to sell. Either way tho, it was still a great game, looking forward to seeing what they can do with the sequel cause i doubt they can do another open world island anymore

Mario did platforming and so did Crash Bandicoot, those are the facts. Here is where it gets crazy, Uncharteds platforming bears many similarities to Crash Bandicoots simplistic platforming while Tomb Raider had complex platforming which was one of its strongest points, now the new Tomb Raider bears a platforming thats simplistic and features moments of lara falling n handles breaking.....In short words Unchartedy

I agree with you on TR doing platforming and puzzles before UC did. The UC devs were no doubt inspired by the idea of TR to create Nathan Drake and his adventures. However, If you have played the UC games which I assume you have, then you can clearly see the way the TR devs were inspired to go about the platforming, gunplay, and even the story telling in a sense. This TR felt way different than all of the others and I have played every single one. There were plenty of times when the game felt as though it literally was Uncharted. To each their own. Simply my opinion. I still enjoyed it very much. I know I am not the first person to make this observation as it has been stated in numerous reviews.

Overall, Tomb Raider is a very impressive game, one that had me glued to the screen the entire time. Never once did I want to stop playing--it's that good. I'm rather picky when it comes to games, and I'm not much of a gamer myself admittedly, but this game did it for me.

I was a bit disappointed to find that the puzzles were made to appeal more streamlined, though. Since they were, in fact, optional, I didn't see why they weren't designed to appear more challenging. That was really my only gripe.

What I do appreciate though, is that it's still very much a Tomb Raider game, albeit a more modernized one. The exploration and platforming are just plain fun in and of itself. The puzzles were fun, too, despite being too simplistic. What impressed me the most was the combat which felt so seamless; not to mention, the cover system is one of the best I've seen, in that it feels natural and not at all awkward and clunky compared to other action adventure games. The story was solid. Most importantly, Lara is back and better than ever. I don't think I've ever met a protagonist so human as her. Witnessing Lara start off as a frightetend individual to a brave, and confident woman is gratifying.

As for the Uncharted comparison, I think Tomb Raider is the better game for a lot of reason. Better combat (you can approach enemies in a lot of varied ways; much more smooth too), platforming (much more liberating in terms of movmenent, as opposed Uncharted's simplistic "platforming"), exploration (it's linear sure, but there are a plethora of routes to take, providing incentive to explore further for rewards), etc. Tomb Raider doesn't hold your hand as much, instead it allows us to think for ourselves.; it's more of a game than it is a movie and I appreciate that.

I think Ace_of_Spades summed it up quite nicely. To me, the variety of ways you could kill, the variety of ways you could platform (some areas had multiple platforming paths, and were more like Assassin's Creed than Uncharted), and all the room you had to explore on your way to your objective are all enough to set the game well apart from Uncharted. If it copied Uncharted, it at least improved those elements by a great measure. The huge difference for me, however, is the characters and atmosphere, the tone of the game. Tomb Raider is dark and gloomy. Lara and her crew aren't on an adventure. They aren't cracking jokes every five seconds. They are all business. They are survivors, not adventurers.

I know a lot of people are comparing the games. I just don't get it. Other than big action sequences where you have to run for your life (which is in several other games) I think they are different enough to at least not call Tomb Raider a clone. Crystal Dynamic did too damn good a job to equated to copycats. Just saying.

I liked it, but it has absolutely no replay value and here's why.

First off, the multiplayer sucks, most people were expecting this so no point in going into any detail.

Secondly, when you play the game for the first time it's great, you do a bit/or a lot of exploring, collecting, tombs etc. and it seems like it has a great campaign.  But it doesnt, when you want to replay the game just for the campaign you realize just how much of a piece of crap it is, not because of gameplay, not because of story (which was heh) not because of combat, but because it is the single most controlling game I've every played.

I didn't want to collect anything, I didn't want to explore, I didn't want to go through the same tombs because they were just simply too easy, I just wanted to replay the campaign and nothing else, but that's where this game truly falls apart.

You literally cannot advance for more than a minute without the game taking control through the form of a cutscene, lara walking slowly (nearly half the campaign is her walking slowly) or stopping all together just so the camera can show you something that's not important, you constantly lose control of the camera, a ridiculous amount of QTE's, time slows down for so many actions, nearly everything is so heavliy scripted, and what bothered me the most was how Lara would always crouch when enemies were near, before you even know they were there, killing any and all suspence.

I liked it, but sold it just yesterday because I don't see myself replaying this game for years, if ever again and by then it'l be cheap.

Really liked it the character of Lara was interesting not so the others they sucked. The multiplayer was thrown in at the last minute and it shows. Puzzles aren't as hard as the previous ones but the game has weapon upgrades, plenty of collectables and also a bit of vareity in gameplay.

It was a fantastic action game, but as a tomb raiding game, it failed rather horribly. Trying to be objective here, but a Tomb Raiding game has large tombs to explore and complex puzzles that take a more than a few minutes to solve. Tomb Raider 2013 had none of those. It was one large massive island that was pockmarked with teeny tiny secret tombs that were as memorable as a BMW in a doctor's parking lot. Yeah, there catacombs and shrines and other places like that, but those served as pass-throughs, offering no interaction whatsoever to the gamer. Again, it was a fantastic action game, great graphics, presentation, combat, etc., but it needed puzzles and ... well.,.. tombs. If CD takes their new engine and mixes it with traditional Tomb Raider elements, then they'll have a phenomenal sequel.

By the way, stop comparing it to Uncharted.

Absolutely loved it. One of the best games I've played in some time. From story, to characters, to atmosphere, to environments, to exploration, to combat. Pretty much everything. The game more than delivered on my high expectations. I loved the development of Lara as a character and really can't wait to see how they build upon that foundation in future games.

Loved it. Loved it so much that I played it through to 100% completion on both PC and PS3.

I can't wait for the inevitable sequel.

That is going to be a real concern for the sequel because

1. Lara cannot be a naive girl anymore

2. She cannot be shipwrecked on another Island

3.Gamers would want diverse locations

4.Open would mean less focus

If anything, I think Uncharted borrowed from Tomb Raider. Then again, this is the first and only Tomb Raider game i've played, so I wouldn't really know.

But I thought Tomb Raider was a solid action game. I wasn't incredibly invested in the story, but it was decent, if but a bit cliche. To keep it short, I felt most aspects of the game were great, though not amazing. I was planning on holding off for the Definitive Edition, but scrapped that plan once the PS3 version came to PS+. I don't regret it since it's still a pretty nice looking game on the PS3, and now I don't have to waste any money on a slightly enhanced version.

I loved the new TR so much that I bought it twice. I bought it used on PS3 for showing Xbox favouritism throughout the generation and then new on PS4. Best in the series, and I can say that because I've played them all.

I loved the new Tomb Raider. I loved the platforming, puzzles (simple as they were), combat & collecting. It's cinimatic, it's fun, it's got some great semi-liniar-semi-open areas. If Uncharted 4 copies some of the extra collecting and platforming variety from the 2013 Tomb Raider, I'd be TOTALLY fine with that. I really, really hope that they make a second Tomb Raider that has that multi-location-Uncharted-Indiana-Jones feel.
